Awesome video. The auto exchange sequence at 8:54 is probably the best quality in existence for either NSWGR or VR.

Classic footage from a great era, so much has changed since 1985 and it wasn't that long ago! The audio is quite decent for its time, John must have been using good equipment.

I have had a quick Duck Duck Go of the Rag Tag Railway and sadly it never materialised. Once again men failed to play nice. What a terrible shame.

Not a 'high-vis' long-sleeve shirt or steel-toe boot in sight. When men were men and hard work was good for the soul and the sooks of today stayed home with their sisters. I miss those days. I too will be looking to find out if the dreams these men had turned into a reality. I ride on that line I would be a highlight for this old man.

What a fantastic old film, so sad if this railway doesnt exist today, Im going to have to go to Dorrigo to find out. Im a member of the Edgeworth Model railway club , one of the members told me that the members had fallen out with each other, and after all the renovation work they had completed, it has closed down yet again. I do hope this is not true, so I will go and find out. This is the Australia that I love.

What a lovely story I have just watched. Forty years on I can’t bring myself to hear the end of this story, so much hope and endeavour, I worry that it may never have come to fruition.

I was there with my wife Last year. I was speaking to the old fella who lived in the house attached to the train yard. He was Driving a silver VY commodore station wagon. he told me it was a fight between the towns people who want the museum. But The local Council and Governments were making it very hard for anyone to do anything today. It seems the government couldn't care less about our history or the revenue it would bring to the town of Dorrigo and surrounding areas. To me local Governments State and federal are the lowest forms of life there is. They shouldn't be allowed to breed. My Dad and his best mate Slim Dusty wrote about what was going to happen way before it happened. I'm in Dorrigo a couple of times a month unloading at the two stock and station agents, and when you talk to the locals. the government and the lowlifes that run it are always a main topic. scums of the earth. Thats my Rant.

Fantastic videos mate, great to see the orange and gray era and the Candy era and all the variety of the good days. Great that we finally have some V/line orange locos running around again (A62, 66 & Y127, with more to come as well) Will be great to see a couple of sets repainted back to the V/line orange & Gray livery eventually too. Would be nice to see some candy stuff too some day.

From what I can identify: Warrenheip, 961 - awaiting restoration. X53 - solt to QRN, later to CFCLA, now scrapped. X36 (banker at Warrenheip) - scrapped. S306 - to PN then to 707 Operations. S310 stored unrestored at SRHC (Seymour). S300 (Ararat arrival) - WCR then to CFCLA, now privately preserved and stored at ARHS Canberra. Y155 - Ararat shunter - scrapped. 937 and 930 at Ballarat - 937 scrapped, along with 938 (seen at Ballan). 930 is preserved on SG, presumably Port Dock Museum, Adelaide.

The lead locomotive is G525 judging by the horn, and in the first minute of the video, you can hear the driver blasting the horn for the Robinsons Road and Golf Link Road crossings further up the line. I absolutely love the eerie atmosphere in this video, with the dark, foggy night and the horn in the distance!

Dos this branch line still exists? Did the museum ever open? Can you visit the museum?

It "exists", No, well kind of... Its a very complicated story with many people having conflicting stories and/or opinions. Its been 30 years since i visited myself...

I have tried to think of one positive thing to say about Dorrigo, it reminds me of Dai Woodhams scrapyard in Barry in Wales. The one good thing is they at least arent cut up so a very faint glimmer of hope . One person in particular who i wont mention but comes out like a fiesty little pitbull terrier says its thexlargest railway museum in the world, well museums are normally public this will never be open. A great start would be if it was all under cover and a cosmetic restoration but even that would be of astronomic cost.

It's a terrible shame that this historic railway was not saved. Many people have good intentions, but get duped by those who are scam artist. It has happened here in the USA also. I grew up with the railroads of northern California. My father was 3rd generation he was a Conductor on Western Pacific Railroad ,now part of Union Pacific. It is one of the most beautiful regions of California.

Well put together, Darcy. I've visited the other track down at Kialla while inspecting the Museum of Vehicle Engineering, but this track nearer to Numurkah looks superb. Now I wonder if any of the " naughty" people that were drafted in to help build this track have now adopted this club as a hobby to keep them out of trouble. If so, great, their community service has been a success for them as well as the club. Must get up there sometime while visiting a friend in Shepparton. Must try and catch up with you too sometime soon. Cheers from Michael.🙂🙂🙂

Dorrigo is the obsession of a horder and a dictator con man. Such a waste and such a shame. Theres som truely unique locomotives there that will never ever move again as long as Keith Jones is alive.
