Good explanation of the structures involved in walking and running. Human feet were evolved to run long distances over grassland, not concrete or other man-made surfaces. Not to mention, broken glass and dog shit.

guy doesn’t use his glutes running. His calves and lower legs are doing all the work. He needs to run with more of a forward lean rather than sitting back so much.

Might be because of instability when standing neutrally with weight over the ball of the feet. I had a bit of the same issues so I recognize the desire to get the weight out on the outside of the foot and the centerline a little back.

Shoes are like casts/ coffins. They do too much work yr foot should naturally do on it's own. After running 12-15,000 miles barefoot in grass & winning alot of 3,5&10k track & road races I feel that everything you do as a runner depends on the development of bulletproof feet.Track spikes are one step up the support continuum. Weak feet equate to sending continual structural problems up the kinetic chain. Transitioning is simple. Just walk barefoot or do stairs the same way. You'll intrinsically know when yr ready to take it to the treadmill/ grass or track unshod. You don't need to spend 140.-180. Bucks on specialty so called " barefoot shoes" ( that's an oxymoron anyway!) Running barefoot results not only in super strong feet but, reconnects you with earth & upgrades not only yr intelligence but, also a heightened awareness & eventually happiness........

Watching a runner trying to act, is worse than watching an actor trying to run! 😕 Good information though! Also have to add, that gal in the green top has killer abs! 💪

Great piece of information. Apart from research papers, there are a number of courses that clinicians can use to learn gait analysis. Here's a free Course on the biomechanical analysis of runners: auptimo.com/running-injury-course-biomechanical-analysis-of-runners/ Gait analysis is an excellent way to understand the common biomechanics linked with injuries. It is also an important tool to figure out if the injury is due to a musculoskeletal impairment, a training error, faulty running mechanics or extrinsic factors like footwear.

Hi, Can AIS help with glute amnesia? I am a sprinter and I never feel my glutes and hamstrings, only my quads are sore. This is not optimal since the glutes should drive the body forward, the glutes being the larges and most powerful muscles of the body. Can AIS make me glute dominant ? Thank you

I'm not sure if someone has asked this, but is putting something on your feet to spread your toes out actually beneficial? I ask because I saw someone in the video with something like this on.

I think that like most of people say, it should be natural to just run barefoot. But many people developed/were born with some minor defects which might be a problem in the long term. Myself I have ankles dropping inward a little. The thing is that exercises as such helps my form and strengthen my ankles. Yes, maybe if you have a problem, you should see a specialist, BUT not everywhere there are such specialists. Here if you go to podiatrist or any other studied something-ist, they tell you to wear normal shoes, because this is only thing they know. So sometimes it is good to just watch such videos and try to find what helps you.

A lot of teachers of barefoot running have never seen a person who runs trails from from birth. That person uses The toes are used for traction so the toes grab the ground with each step. The foot becomes stronger and bigger thicker as that works all the muscles of the foot The plantar fascia is engaged with each step
