David Cronenberg and every artist who worked on this film inject our minds with a concentrated serum of our greatest fears: the fear of mortality, the fear of aging, the fear of disease. The nausea invoked by our slow degeneration into nothing and the despair at knowing there is nothing we can do to stop it. This is a horror film of genius. People often compare it to Kafka's Metamorphosis and while the two stories seem to have many surface similarities, there is one key difference: The Fly captures how it feels to lose your humanity. The Metamorphosis captures what it means to FEEL like an insect.

David Cronenberg is a master of body horror, a genre that explores the anguish and terror related to the transformation of the body. The Fly is one of the most emblematic examples of this genre. The film addresses themes such as mortality, disease, and the loss of control over one's body. Seth's metamorphosis is a powerful metaphor for human vulnerability and the fear of the unknown. Cronenberg doesn't just show us physical horror, but delves into the depths of the human psyche, exploring the most hidden fears. #TheFly #LaMosca #Cronenberg #BodyHorror #Horror #Cinema #Film #Auteur #Fear #Metamorphosis

I… CANNOT watch this scene. I CANNOT do fingernails. I just cannot. I’ve clipped a toenail too close before and it bled a lot. I’ve accidentally bent nails backwards before. No bleeding but it hurt a lot. I CANNOT deal with fingernail/toenail related things.

the part that gets me is where Seth has to sit down and quitely says "..oh no..." that bit gets me everytime 😢 its probably the scariest thing in the world to not know whats happening to you, your first reaction would be to assume the worst, Am I dying? O.O Jeff really sold the gravity of this moment so well it brings me to tears everytime :O this film is a Masterpiece!

Cronenberg talks in this films commentary that this entire scene is analogous to someone in their bathroom discovering physical symptoms of a terminal illness. Goldblum is such a good actor and nailed the fear of someone realizing theyre dying even though we know he is becoming a fly but obviously he knew death was gonna be the outcome of it

This should be understood much deeper. This is the tragedy of the scientist who was fanatically devoted to his work. This scene is the culmination of the film when the matter of his whole life turns into a tragedy. This is exactly what awaits people who are ready to go crazy for their work. This is what Cronenberg wanted to say. Brilliant

What's really terrifying about his mutation is wondering how doctors would react if he had tried seeing one.😨 Even before those freaky symptoms started showing, I'm pretty sure blood tests would have noticed something off about his genetics.
