<3 at the song and then another <3 at note #1 I've had my own questioning and some of it resulted in me leaving the church I was raised in, but I still believe in a higher power - just not how I was told they were, or how I should treat or think about them. No loving or benevolent God could be against questions and still be those things, imo. Have you heard the song The Truth Is A Cave? I think you might enjoy it. It gives me many emotions lol (both for myself and also about Szeth!) Honestly all of the Oh Hellos music that I've heard is great, but that one was an instant favorite.

Thank you so much for sharing this with me. What a powerful message to read. In so many ways. You know what has been a compelling reason for me to keep believing? It's actually comments just like yours. Because I'm not here to change your mind about what you believe. I'm here to love you. And I'm so glad that what we've created has had a positive impact on you. Of course, at the core of what we do is a desire to live in and reflect the love of Jesus to others, but how that works itself out can be, in my opinion, of infinite variety.... and sometimes that means writing and sharing songs based on fantasy books, or songs based on tragedy in our own lives. Thank you for listening to both, and for taking time to reach out. We are profoundly affected by what you've written. Keep moving forward, friend.

Hi Stormlyte! I've been listening to this song for a months, and I absolutely adore it! It's probably my most played track on Spotify actually!! I'm working on a Stormlight yt video before WAT, and I really would want to include this song towards the end. However, I would need to blend the instrumental for the vocals to come in later. Would it possible to somehow get the instrumental version of this track, if that exists? ^^ I will credit you of course, no worries! I just can't imagine the video without it^^

In my experience, "why" is one of, if not the, hardest questions. I have been actively religious my whole life. For most of my life, I was naive and believed that if i was "good," things would also be "good." As I get older, I realize more and more that isn't the case. It feels like life has been beating me down with a metal chair in a wretling match i didn't agree to be in. Among other things, my wife and I have struggled with infertility for 7 years. It seems like everyone in our lives is having children and building families, and we are left behind. I struggle with that "why." "Why would You do this to me? I am trying! Am I not good enough? Why won't You help me?" I have, through a lot of introspection, realized that faith is not necessarily for the good times. Faith is for the bad times. Faith is for the rough times. Faith is for the times you feel so, very alone. I look back on my past experiences for the hope and the strength I need to keep moving forward. I feel the need to trust that, in the end, this will all be for my good, even if I don't see the resolution in this life. Somethings I can see so far that these experiences have changed in me are: I am not so quick to judge. I have no idea what someones life is like. I don't know their past. I don't know their present. How they got here, or how they have been shaped to see the world. I don't know, and I never will. All I can do is listen and try. I am not trying to preach, far from it, but my trials have transformed my belief to faith, and i think i am ultimately better for it. I love your songs. They make, or maybe help, me feel. Another song that I really relate to is "Endless Night" from the Lion King Broadway: Where has the starlight gone? Dark is the day How can I find my way home? Home is an empty dream Lost to the night Father, I feel so alone You promised you'd be there Whenever I needed you Whenever I call your name You're not anywhere I'm trying to hold on Just waiting to hear your voice One word, just a word will do To end this nightmare When will the dawning break Oh endless night Sleepless I dream of the day When you were by my side Guiding my path Father, I can't find the way You promised you'd be there Whenever I needed you Whenever I call your name You're not anywhere I'm trying to hold on Just waiting to hear your voice One word, just a word will do To end this nightmare I know that the night must end And that the sun will rise And that the sun will rise I know that the clouds must clear And that the sun will shine And that the sun will shine I know Yes, I know The sun will rise Yes, I know I know The clouds must clear I know that the night must end I know that the sun will rise And I'll hear your voice deep inside I know that the night must end And that the clouds must clear The sun The sun will rise The sun The sun will rise Life Before Death Strength Before Weakness Journey Before Destination I love you. You have got this. You are not alone.

I relate so much to your doubts, even if mine were for different reasons. There are some days where I think there has to be a God, and others that I don't even know if anything is real at all. During one of the darkest "I don't know" days, I started writing this poem and I think you might like it: Eli Eli lama sabachthani? My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me? My soul is empty, my stomach a pit Where can I find thee, feel thy presence one whit? I'm seeking the scriptures, but doubt crawls in Are you with me now, is my pain such a sin? Don't I need thee every hour? Why now leave me here to cower? Can you answer, hear my prayer? Tell me you are really there Tell me what I feel is you Show me what else I can do Yet Christ Himself uttered those words On the cross as he died, still his voice was heard He went below both you and me Are we greater even than He? Our God He died alone and in pain And was buried, we thought, there to remain Yet for all that we know he was crucified All our sins and our sorrows, even death he defied My God, my God, I know not why You've chosen this moment to let me die But because of your love you will always redeem me In the moments I cry "Eli lama sabachthani?" Thank you for sharing your story and your music with us ❤️

A wonderful song. The meaning you put behind these songs are what makes these songs unique and special, though we have vastly different lives I think that hardship and struggle are constants in everyone’s life, and I know that God gives us hardship for our own sake, though it may be hard to see why or what we are to learn from them, but regardless. Your song is beautiful and the story and meaning behind it is also beautiful.

It's interesting how people who were absolutely sure they were doing "the right thing" pushed me away from themselves and from my faith. When a friend terminated our friendship because he thought I was a bad influence, a chaos of emotions ensued in which I finally decided that I was enough as a friend and that this person was just afraid of the questions that came up in discussions with me. I understand that we don't have to expose ourself to all influences in life and put up with them. But sometimes this self-protection is a blinder and as long as we wear it, we miss the fact that we can hurt other people with our supposed arrogance. Your incredibly honest way of showing your doubts and your courage to ask questions paradoxically makes me feel safe and connected. It's the perfect façade to bounce off of and inhibits compassion in both directions. Thank you for taking the risk of tearing down this façade and showing your emotional world. That really touched me. I came across your music as a Sanderson fan. But now I'm just as curious to see what the next video description will contain. Please keep making and sharing music. I'm already looking forward to the next song. Best regards Robin

Wow. Having a strong emotional response to this. I am so sorry for what you experienced. "Sometimes this self-protection is a blinder and as long as we wear it, we miss the fact that we can hurt other people with our supposed arrogance." What a profound truth. I was just talking to a colleague today about what it looks like to help students (I work at a K-12 school) move from a more black and white understanding of the world and of fellow humans into more nuanced and empathetic places, and the story you've shared hits right at the heart of that question, highlighting the importance of getting that process right. From the core of my being, thank you for engaging with this song and then sharing hard things and what you've learned. It means so, so much to me. I see you, I hear you, I understand what you're saying and where you're coming from. Thank you again.

When the male vocals come in during the climax, aside from the first 'Survive!' Which I interpret as Kelsier passing the power of Preservation to Vin, I interpret the other lyrics as Sazed singing in tandem with Vin. He is the next inheritor of preservation after all, and his own life was both silk (from his high servant's robes) and ashes (his association with the common people as a travelling keeper/diplomat).

I think the pronunciation of Kelsier can actually go both ways, in the mistborn books its aaid the nobility and Ska have different accents and ways of speaking, spook being a blatant extreme example. The nobility woild probably pronounce it the "Kelsiay" way while the Ska would probably call him just "Kelsier"

I think Preservation is the Shard that I respect the most. He genuinely cared about the people of Scadrial and saw it as his personal duty to accompany every one them in the Cognitive Realm as they passed into the Beyond. Even though he wasn't able to do more, he did everything that he could for Scadrial. And his words to Kelsier about playing with the hearts of men shows that he respected the people that he watched over. I know that Harmony does, too, but comparing the amount of time that Leras had the power of a Shard to Sazed, it's impressive that after thousands of years, Leras remained such a caring person.
