Its interesting watching these old formulas, and knowing that world and Rise works on bracket systems of 80 defence, and anything inbetween each multiple of 80 is wasted. Yet seeing MHGU even as little as 10 extra defence can end up being helpful.

You are not wrong but I seem to strongly disagree with 4:00 your logic that more armor is not worth it because "it requires way too much defense" to take half the damage. My argument is simple. You should be looking at how much more Armor you need to take one less hit? Answer 20 to 40 until it jumps to higher than 40. 4:00 we assume you have 150 hp and you will take 150 dmg. Question is: How many hits you can take without dying? 1 Armor = 2 hits 21 Armor = 3 hits 51 Armor = 4 hits 81 Armor = 5 hits 121 Armor = 6 hits 141 Armor = 7 hits 181 Armor = 8 hits 211 Armor = 9 hits 231 Armor = 10 hits 271 Armor = 11 hits 311 Armor = 12 hits 351 Armor = 13 hits 381 Armor = 16 hits 501 Armor = 18 hits Two things to notice. 1) 381 is soft cap. Before that you need around 20 to 40 more Armor to take one more hit but 381 allows you to take three more hits making the Amor per Hit ratio 10! 2) You need 120 more armor to jump from 281 to 501 but it allows you to survive 2 hits but that is 60 Armor per Hit ratio or as I call it Soft Cap. Your argument is that you need way too much Defense to take half the damage while in reality you only need around 20 to 40 more armor to survive one more hit. Don't think Armor as "how much dmg you will take" Instead think Armor as "how much more do I need to soak one more hit?" Is this already old news to you or did you learn something new? Also I may be wrong <3 and this was just looking the 4:00 example you showed yourself. I my self learned this today while watching this video with previous knowledge about eHP (Effective Healt Pool) which is its own topic. Edit: Your Excel spread sheets needs additional box "hits you can take"
@xezzee
@xezzee 9 ай бұрын
Google: Damage Taken / ( 80 + Armor ) = Damage you take. Excel I did: The Dragon did around 22 700 Damage. You need 80 armor to survive 1 hit and around 150 more armor to take one more hit. Your Excel says 81 armor 144 damage -> mine says 81 armor 141 damage, close enough? I spend way too much time on this.

This video is great! I too see my fair share of people who come from World and Rise without understanding how armor skills work pre-5th gen...even with HRs as high as 200. Though it's pretty easy to explain: "If you do not have at least 10 points in an armor skill, the skill does not activate." Conversely, I see some players who overload on a skill. One guy I saw had a set with 31 points in the Defense skill. Perhaps they misinterpreted those skills as just buffs to their stats. That said, changing it to the 5th gen system was probably the most logical way to make the game more accessible.

Thank you for having a clear, concise guide with no filler, memes or other trash diluting your information. If we could get information on part breaks, severs and elemental resistances/weaknesses. You did mention the horn and how that affects its cloak, I appreciate that. That little bit extra would be awesome.

When calculating the damage on training dummy it helps to show the crit rate in the damage formula so instead of a low/high damage people can know the average damage and decide if Crit boost will raise your dps more than crit rate. So at 3:05 your weapon's dps if you only use attacks with 10 motion value would be calculated as 125raw * (1 + 0.4crit damage * (20crit rate/100possible crit rate)) * 1.05 sharpness * 0.1MotionValue * 0.6HitzoneValue. So it looks to be 125 * (1 + (0.4 * 0.2)) * 1.05 * 0.1 * 0.6= 8.5 DPS. Just wanted to show this so people don't get confused and assume the dps is the average between the non crit and the crit which would be 9.5.

Very nice video! Played rise on pc for 50 hours now and was wondering if committing on full elemental is worth it, sadly not much. I play bow but still have one question. The elemental damage is also based on sharpness, but bow doesn't have sharpness. Does this mean the sharpness modifier is 1?
@TheTopicHole
@TheTopicHole 2 жыл бұрын
I'm also a bow main so I feel your pain. Elemental crit was updated in sunbreak so it has been buffed. I can find the new modifier values for ya later on today. If I remember correctly bow is going to have a charge modifier as well as a shot type modifier so you might be able to put that in instead.

the elemental section really stuck out to me, it reminded me of mh4u: where the gore magala armors of all ranks had negative fire resistance as a skill (the worst element imho to be weak to) and it really showed that if you didn't take care of your resistances, it really didn't matter how high your defense was at that point.

There are few things i might add: - the fast Body Slam is always a double Body Slams, the slow one is always a solo slam - after Body Slam Chameleos turns invincible but lying down for a second or two (aim for the tail) - the Poison Cloud Ring attacks always done while Invincibility turned off and Chameleos do a small 'tippy toes' before jumping mid air - if you saw Chameleos get into a calm steady positioned, it means it'll used it's tounge attacks, move to the side - Tail Slams have vertical hitbox as well - Chameleos will break all lock on (L1 lock on) everytime it goes invincible. Get used to it, or break it's horn - breaking it's horn may not removed invincibility completely, but at least you can see it's silhouette a lot clearer and you can lock down on it using L1 Note: this all came from my experience from few fights i have with it, have fun farming this silly purple doggo

It's to make it easier to compare damage across weapons. In some of the other games they have bloat values and we have to convert them to something that makes more sense. An example would be something like a great sword with 1000 attack and an SnS with 300 attack. Depending on the bloat value they could both do the same amount of damage over a hunt but it looks like the gs would crush the SnS in dps.

@@TheTopicHole I have managed to dodge roars a few times but it's usually by accident thinking it's an attack that's coming. I think it'd be neat if you hunt a certain amount of the same monster, that monsters roar is no longer effective, or maybe even using monster parts to craft a pair of earplugs for that specific monster (some balled up nargacuga hair shoved in the ear for example) but you'd have to equip/swap out for whatever specific monster you're hunting.

I found out that some effective 0.5 damage numbers are rounded up and some are rounded down. Like a 136.5 raw damage was rounded down to 136 while a 115.5 raw damage was rounded up to 116. 31.5 was rounded down to 31 the same as 73.5 down to 73, while some elemental damages like 10.5 or 4.5 were rounded up to 11 and 5. Do you know the mechanics there? Its just the 0.5 that seems to be absolut random xD the damage numbers i calculated absolut correct and those testings all ended with exact 0.5 not more not less
@TheTopicHole
@TheTopicHole 3 жыл бұрын
They should always round to the nearest whole number. When I was testing It seemed like I would only get discrepancies like that if the MV was off. They aren't always whole numbers for some reason so that might be something you would need to play around with. The other numbers don't seem to change but the motion value for the raw portion could change with each update so I wouldn't focus too much on getting it perfect. It turns into a nightmare pretty quickly lol
@EldenKing7
@EldenKing7 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheTopicHole i made two calculations with the same MV to get two different damage numbers with 0.5 One gave me 136.5 rounded down to 136 and the other was 115.5 rounded up to 116 xD 260 display/true raw x MV 0.5 from switch axe overhead slash x 1.0 dummy head x 1.05 green sharp = 136.5 was round down to 136 damage 220 display/true raw x MV 0.5 from switch axe overhead slash x 1.0 dummy head x 1.05 green sharp = 115.5 was round up to 116 damage Its the same attack/motion value both no crits of course and should both either round up or down even when the MV vary in a way. Maybe it is the "round to the next EVEN number"? But then as well i got some other numbers like 4.5 and 10.5 elemental damage round up to 5 and 11 or 31.5 raw that round down to 31 xD absolut random i guess
