As an alternative to your way of making your Hitch secure... I just add a half hitch to the loop having already made the slippery hitch using the long end of the rope.

I live in the suburbs. Don’t camp. But my ‘you never know’ mindset has me buying rope and paracord and practicing knots. Excellent channel, instant sub. Very well done sir.

If you backed up the clove hitch with a couple half hitches it wouldn’t roll out and it easy to untie after a hard load

Great channel.knot trying should be part of life skills education in school,at least rhe basic more commonly used ones with their applications

Really interesting, but most channels will take their time a little more, and repeat, at least one time very slowly. For someone not very skilled in knots, I found this kinda rushed, and it’s annoying to keep going back and forth in the video. Just my thoughts

You can click the gear icon and reduce the speed of the video or as you say rewind. I'm not interested in making super long videos that are made long and slow with the intention of earning more from KZbin. I create straight-to-the-point, short videos. This way the viewer doesn't need to sit through a tone of blah blah just to see what they came for.

@ Yeah, I totally get there are many points of view and preferences, both for the viewers and the posters. I just found this video interesting, but was a little frustrated trying to follow along, so I figured I’d share that. Hopefully to be taken as a constructive criticism. But in the end, it’s your channel to do as you wish with

Sheet bend is soooo close to a square, it might be easier to show those back to back. One minor change to the square, and voila.

i love the fact that i can tie 4 different knots for most every application but that knot wizard just made me realize my pride is false and i need a lot more education. he just did 3 and a half of them. much praise good sir.

Thank you! So many people post the magnus and call it the Taut line hitch, it's been driving me crazy not knowing which was the correct technique. You just taught me the midshipman, and I prefer that to the others. Love learning these new details.

Woodland zip will only work on compressible bundles. On solid objects there is no tension to keep it secure. Will loosen with the slightest vibration. Wonder why almost all advocate of this zip tie never mention this.

The final O of the OXO appears to do nothing. It even partially unwraps on its own. The cleat hitch with only a "half wrap" is somewhat less secure than those which begin with the full wrap "O". Seems that a cleat hitch that begins with a full wrap "O" is the best of both worlds. I've seen comments on other videos about how the full wrap cleat hitch can become very difficult to untie after put under a heavy load, but those same commenters then swear by the OXO - which also has an "X" after a full wrap, so by their own argument, that would be just as difficult to un-do after a heavy load for the same reasoning. I've been sticking with the cleat hitch after a full wrap and it's been very secure and easy to untie for years, even after heavy storms. I guess there will never be agreement for everyone, so "To each his own", I suppose. Cheers!

A 3m by 3m tarp is pretty standard and I don’t think I’ve ever needed anything larger. When you get more experience backcountry camping you’ll have the skills to do more with less.
