HI how's it going, Great video I found it very inspiring. Thanks for posting it so, I have a 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix and currently I'm working on it and one of the things I want to do is cover up the bottom row of the holes it has where the rubber goes across. Because I can't find those strips new I've been thinking that I can just fill in those holes by welding them in then grinding them flat and then send in the bumper to go get it chromed. I have a Stick and TIG welder I just bought. What would be a good material to fill in those holes. What type of rods should I use? Thank you in advance and shout out to you from San Jose, CA (Bay Area)

Learned long ago from a auto body repair guy, tide laundry soap mixed with plain water is a very a effective rust remover. A sponge or plastic scrubber to apply, a little elbow grease, let it set a little and rinse. Rust gone.

Hi, greetings from Europe. You can try 1: 100grams Citric Acid. 2: 40grams Sodium Carbonate / 63Grams Sodium Bicarbonate / 30grams Sodium Hydroxide. (these are OR, one of these, no clue what you get the easiest). After reaction has completed, add final ingredient. 3: Arbitrary amount of liquid dish soap. There is a video on this called " The Ultimate HOMEMADE Rust Remover (Better than EvapoRust) " Cheers and wish you all the best. Stay safe and handle chemicals with care.

There are many different ways to remove rust. The reason i use the method that i do is there's no neutralizing or cleanup. Sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate can reactivate after a matter of time even after your paint job is done

Could you use muriatic acid and isopropyl alcohol?
@justahandchannel
@justahandchannel 14 күн бұрын
Muriatic acid is unsuitable as a phosphoric acid substitute. While effective for rust removal, its high toxicity, potential for metal degradation, lack of etching properties, and neutralization requirements present significant drawbacks. Phosphoric acid's advantages eliminate these concerns.

Hi, first off congrats on your video series, while not professional they are great watching and done by someone living in the real world. My question is.. Why do you use ethyl alcohol in the rust converter? Is it a binding agent or are you able to just use the phosphoric acid mixed with water in a 40% solution? I also believe that methylated spirits is ethyl alcohol, is this correct? I am working on spraying a chassis before finishing with underbody sealer.. Cheers from Oz.
@justahandchannel
@justahandchannel 14 күн бұрын
Thanks!! Ethyl alcohol is used as a solvent and cleaner. Methylated Spirits is just denatured ethanol so you should be able to use it but i've never use methanol before so i can't guarantee it. Also use caution as methanol is poisonous.

i used vinegar for light rust removal not so much for converting. i would coat/soak an item and later manually "work" the surface (while still wet) to remove the rust when i wanted bare metal. but the home brew seems to have a better more thorough result. depend what the goal is.

How do you remove/neutralize the acid the white residue left behind after it dries? Yhanks

The white residue is caused either from too much moisture we're too much product left on the metal. You can either respray it with the acid or paint right over it

im not against any method really, but practically speaking, 'going at' a vehicle undercarriage or frame just spraying it with something is going to cause more damage than it fixes .. individual removed parts, ok yeah, treat them then paint them ... but the easiest way to stave off corrosion under a vehicle is - save your old oil from an oil change, get you an old towel and soak it in it, jack your car up and start wiping .. its a dirty job😂 .. but highly effective .. i would spray off sand or caked up stuff first and let it dry .. youll be surprised how good it looks if your thorough, and the oil film will stay on for a long time, if it starts looking dry in a year or so hit it again ..
@justahandchannel
@justahandchannel 27 күн бұрын
That works great for a daily driver but this method is more geared to people with classic cars when they intend to have a painted finish or like myself, they don't want oil over everything. It's personal preference.

Thanks for reminding me of this method. I agree with you. My deceased brother was a real mechanical genius and he taught me your method years ago. The oil also protects the undercarriage from further rust.

How about parts that are not supposed to be painted afterward and are exposed to water? For example, screws and bolts on a motorbike. Usually, I just put all of them into the phosphoric acid formula for 30 minutes (after getting rid of bad parts of rust), and they are like new. But I know when they are exposed to water, they tend to flash rust. So using that way on my motorbike parts that will sooner or later get wet sounds tricky. Any tips on that? :) Btw great content boss!
