Do not buy a Ridged table saw. They are all garbage. And the customer service is even worse.
@JessCretney
@JessCretney Жыл бұрын
I have been happy with mine and no real issues over the many years of ownership. I cannot speak to customer service, since I have never had to consult with them. So, you may be correct on the customer service issues. In my opinion, this is an inexpensive tablesaw, and does a decent job at doing what it is supposed to do, which is cut wood with sufficient accuracy. What specific issues did you run into Bob?

Great jig, my friend! But your tenon is too thin. The formula for calculating the thickness of a tenon is very simple. Multiply the thickness of the workpiece by 5 and divide by two.

Nice! Attention to detail, well thought out. Please tell us something about the router table in the table saw extension wing.
@JessCretney
@JessCretney 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe. Regarding the router table, that is a Bench Dog router extension table. I really like how it fits on the R4512 table saw, and most important to me is room. My shop is small, and space is a premium. This extension not only adds a router table with little additional space, but it provides a wider bed for the tablesaw. I was concerned with adding this weight to my saw (it is cast iron), and that the mobile system built in would not be able to support this additional weight. It seems to be fine. Then, later on I added the custom outfeed table, which added even more weight! So, far the Ridgid mobile system still functions, but I can tell it is about at its limits with the amount of weight I have added. Have a great one!

What type of router table do have in your wing of saw ?
@JessCretney
@JessCretney 4 жыл бұрын
That's a Bench Dog cast iron router table. It is probably the best addition to the saw. It not only allows me to use the table saw for routing, but the added surface area is very helpful for larger projects using the saw. It is not the cheapest router table extension, but in my opinion the best. I think I paid about $350 for it about 8 years ago? If you google "Bench Dog Router Table" you will find it.

I would like to more about how the bolt spring assembly was done. Do you have pictures?
@JessCretney
@JessCretney 4 жыл бұрын
There are some photos at the end of the video. It is pretty simple, with just a 1/4X20 bolt, and I roughly rounded the head to fit in the hole of the plywood. The handle then just screws onto the other end, which is the pull. You will need to put a spring in between the G10 (plastic) and the bolt head to spring load as shown in the photos at end of the video. Hope that helps?

So then do you use yours without any screws holding it down just the metal tab on the underside? I hate those screws !
@JessCretney
@JessCretney 4 жыл бұрын
I just leave the screws installed and fully down, so I never have to mess with them. That is the trick to get the exact thickness of the insert right over the cast iron ears. I hated needing to adjust those screws, and if you take your time and get the insert made properly, you can forget about the screws. Good luck!

Jess, I just purchased the Rigid 4512 table saw. I like your design for the out feed table. Do you have a set of plans?
@JessCretney
@JessCretney 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I did not make plans, I just made it up as I went along. It is fairly straightforward, and if you have any questions just shoot them to me, and I will try to guide you through it. The critical item is mounting of the hinge so your outfeed sits just slightly below the level of the table.
@JessCretney
@JessCretney 4 жыл бұрын
BTW: I think you will be happy with the Ridgid tablesaw. For the price, it is really hard to beat this saw in performance. For me it is just the right size and I really like the built in mobility, since my shop is fairly small and I am always "dancing with my tools".

When I made my template I screwed the throat plate on the piece of wood then use a flush trim bit on the router table.
@JessCretney
@JessCretney 5 жыл бұрын
The problem I have is the stock throat plate is to sloppy. I really wanted the honeymoon fit, so I custom sized mine. But, in reality, the little bit of slop is probably fine and is a perfectly good solution. In the words of a wise old engineer I worked with "Never make any mechanism simple, when a way can be made to make it complex and wonderful!" Have a great day and thanks for the comment!

Hi Jess, I'm planning on doing something like this with my mastercraft fixed table saw... how do you figure out the lenght of the cams? And do you have pictures for the other side of the cams?
@JessCretney
@JessCretney 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Phil, sorry for the long delay to respond. I have been away for a while. Anyway to answer your question on determining the cam lengths, I applied the well defined DRE methodology. Which in a less technical explanation, I used the Direct Rectal Extraction (ie: Pulled it out of my butt). I just used what I thought would be sufficient, but I really don't know what that means, except try something and if it works your good, if not, try something different. Good luck!
