Very impressive - nice work! Can you add a link to where you found the materials for this build? I am in the process of designing my table and gathering ideas and I like both vise videos that you have produced. Excellent and clean work.

+morrixwarlock For the leg vice, the major component that you will need to find/buy is the large lead screw. Fortunately for me I have a good friend who gave me the lead screw. It was from his grandpa's leg vice, and likely at about 100 years old. I found it amazing how well this held up over the years. The phrase "They don't make'm like they used too" definitely comes to mind. For the chop, I made that out of 4/4 quarter-sawn oak that I planed down to about 13/16" and laminated 3 of these, as shown in the video. The rest of the materials are just various wood or decking screws I had laying around. I did reference plans that you download at BenchCrafted website, and while I did not follow them exactly they discuss lots of important features. Benchcrafted sells the lead screws and last I looked your talking $200-350, just for the screw. That's lots of cash in my mind. There are cheaper lead screws, and I know you can buy them at Woodcraft, look for Woodriver item #01H41 Good luck. Please post some pictures when your done on KZbin or other site, and send me the link. I love seeing and plagiarizing others ideas! Any other questions, just ask, I will do my best to answer or at least point you in the right direction. Look for a scaffold leveling screw at your local hardware store.

You can find the scaffolding leg adjuster screws on Amazon for not too outrageous a price.

How well does the box fan with the homemade filter work for you? That seems like a neat idea.

The filter works fine for removing the fine dust in my workshop. Quick, easy and cheap. Since my shop is in my basement I find that if I don't use this fan will sanding/machining wood, that I (ok, my wife) finds everything in the rest of the basement is coated in fine dust.

Real fine build, and thanks for the abridged version...reminds me of the Stephen Wright joke about drawing a map of the U.S., full (1mile= 1 mile) scale. Any regrets about not putting dog holes in the leg vise before you made the angle cut? Someone, possibly Jay Bates made that comment about his leg vise. I am by no means a pro or a perfectionist. If that were the case, by the time I finish, all of Venice beach would have their roller blades jacked, wheels stripped, and up on little tiny cinder blocks! Thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback. The lack of dogs has not been a real issue, as I can use my other bench vice with the integrated stop. I could still add the holes in the future, since it would be easy enough to remove the leg and mount to my drill press. I definitely would watch Jay's video, which is much higher quality then mine, but I also find it useful to see how multiple people build basically the same thing. Lots of opportunities to plagiarize!

Hi. Beautiful vise and thanks for the detailed installation tutorial. I was wondering... do you think the Lee Valley tail vise could be re-purposed to use as a leg vise? It looks very similar to the unit you got from your friend. I was thinking of buying a scaffolding leveling screw ala Dema's leg vise videoo from Dema's Workshop KZbin channel but when I found this Lee Valley tail vise, I considered it as an option. I think it would preclude the need to build a custom hub and garter. I'm very curious to hear your thoughts! This is the vise in question: www.leevalley.com/US/Wood/page.aspx?p=41664&cat=1,41637,41659

Yes. That would work fine. I would use the Lee Valley before using the scaffolding leveling screw. This is a much better option. Good Luck!
