Thanks! I bought NDLR on a whim and then got caught up in Buchla again so never really dug in. It's there for when I'm ready for it. Grids is so useful! I could never let it go. Wish I had one in 5U. Maybe some day. I love that you can switch it over to output gates rather than triggers. Great to use on envelopes in that mode as a gate sequencer.

Are you using the -Phil recommended- switchcraft tini cables with the module? Did you notice any difference in quality if you tried using a standard 3.5 cable
@Pb_salt
@Pb_salt 11 ай бұрын
Weird it crossed those words out when I added - - around them
@precarious333music
@precarious333music 11 ай бұрын
No, I use standard 3.5 cables. Never had an issue. I use 3.5 cables for my Buchla gear which also use tini jacks and never had any issues with loose connections. Tini cables are ridiculously expensive in comparison to 3.5. The other issue is you can stick a 3.5 plug into a tini jack but if you stick a tini plug into a 3.5 jack there is a good chance it will get stuck and damage the components. Phil comes from the world of classic modular where tini is the standard. The ARP 2500 and 2600 use tini, as does Buchla. I suggested 3.5 since it is the standard for eurorack but he decided to stick with what he knows. I know that decision annoyed a lot of users but if they just used the 3.5 cables they already have it would work fine. This should have been made clear because I've never seen a cable to tini on one side and 3.5 on the other so how would you even interface with a eurorack system? Hope this clears things up and you have fun with your module without worrying!

@@precarious333music that’s funny, useful information. I’m planning on a csm purchase and was sort of stressing over the cables a bit; integrating it to my case and having to either buy or make special tini-3.5 cables. Do you still have the module? Really appreciate the video. Phil is a bit elusive, very few demos.
@precarious333music
@precarious333music 11 ай бұрын
@@Pb_salt Yes, I still have the module and still love it. I hope I've alleviated some of your stress. Really wish more people knew the details of the tini/3.5 situation. Like I said, I use 3.5 exclusively with this module, and all the time with Buchla. Zero problems. Never had a loose connection or drop out. There are both tini and 3.5 cables in use in most of the Buchla videos as proof. Phil is elusive even if you know him in the flesh, so don't take it personal! I made this video to help him get the word out. I pushed him for years to get into making euro format modules and he finally gave in after I loaned him a case and modules to get a feel for it. Very happy he jumped in. Enjoy your future CMS purchase!

Cool stuff, are you able to use the 246 with the serge modules? If so, is a jumbler required ?
@precarious333music
@precarious333music Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, 246 works fine with Serge. In fact, it's functionally very similar to a Serge Sequencing Programmer. Both output 0-10v. Gates are a bit different but workable. No jumbler required. Just add common ground as usual and you're good to go. Buchla in general works well with Serge. The only caveat being that Buchla 200e modules, which are digital, have no protection against negative voltages so I only use positive voltages from the Serge into 200e modules. Generally that's very simple to do. No inverted signals from the Gated Comparator, for instance, but you can always use a voltage offset to bring negative into the positive. Buchla 200 modules and Easel can handle negatives no problem. Serge is really good to fill in some blanks in the Buchla world. I mainly wanted a Gated Comparator and simple clock divisions, but Infinite Melody and Modulo Magic are also really interesting. One of the main things 246 has over all of that is control over gate length. You can self-patch a channel of sequenced voltages to control gate length per step which is really nice. Both Serge and Buchla also pair very well with Bugbrand modules. I recently picked up a couple Bugbrand DRM2s and PT-Delay to use in this rig. DRM2 is probably the best drum/percussion module out there so they are a powerful addition to my Banana Land rig. 😜

Ha-ha! It's funny but this idea has been in my head for over a year and I finally got around to trying it. I'll post a thread on the forum once I have a full patch using this technique. The only bummer is 246 is very picky as far as what works to pulse start/stop. I can only get 281 end-of-attack pulse to work. 225e, 281e or anything else in my cases will not work for this even if I boost them. I have to use two function on 281. Wish I had more options. May have to contact Dave Brown to see what can be done. Thanks for checking in, Kent!
