The big difference with many third-party batteries is the decoding (ability for the charge level to be read by the camera). If you are the sort of shooter who just runs your camera until it dies, being able see the charge level in the camera is irrelevant, so an un-decoded battery is no bg deal. If you shoot long-ish videos, being able to see the charge level can be important. I tend to fully recharge a battery before I do video, then use it until it dies (with a spare in my pocket, of course). This way, my batteries don't develop memory. Keep in mind that Canon-branded batteries can also fail. I'm about to buy a pair of Neewer LP-E17s and a pair of K&F Concept of the same, both with their charger. I trust both brands.

Hi there I’ve been shooting with a 90d for the last four years with l glass last year I bought a second hand 1dx mk 2 with 20k clicks on it I absolutely love it used for our showjumping and dressage horses I live in Spain so not really a problem with light looking at canon es there seems to be only a couple of hundred euros difference between the new ri and the 1dx mk 3 doesn’t that tell you something so far this year I’ve taken 0ver 45k pictures on my 1dx mk 2 and really happy with the results

One thing that I like the most that only the canon 1D series has is the spot metering follows the focus point.

For wildlife photography Canon 7D MKII still dominates. I am not going to junk it. No way. Megapixel does not matter much. who goes to higher ISO more than 1600? Canon needs to work more on R7 mirrorless, more improvements.

I am a sports enthusiast and I have not used the 70-200mm yet for sports, but I have used it for events when I rented it for a work project. My goal is to get a used one and eventually get a mirror camera right now I have a DSLR and it works fine. Thanks for the tips

At 7:28 you said that the f/2.8 lets in "a little more light". It is just one stop more... but that's 2X as much light.
@francescogianniconsentino930127 күн бұрын
sure you need the 2.8 in certain scenarios! you loose one stop of light! which is unforgiving in some circumstances! for sports for example!

I bought a Mark II for wildlife photography and I'm going to try and pair it with the Sigma 150-600mm sport lens. I do a lot of wildlife photography and I really need something with good tracking and reach. I'm hoping that it will work out in the end.

I have compares canon r6, canon 1dx, canon 6d and canon 6d mark ii. They are all verry close, almost no difference, but if you do pixel peeping , the rank would be: 1. Canon r6, 2. Canon 6d and 1dx ( almost no difference, maybe 6d noise looks more appealing), 3. Canon 6d mark II. Couldn't belive...

good tips. I will add a couple more. Where you position yourself can be a big deal. There will be days that the lighting is just not that great, so a shutter speed of 1/1000 may not be possible without under exposing your shots. For these days you can try to position yourself so that the players are coming towards you instead of side to side. That could allow you to have a 1/800 speed and get by and allow you to still stop the action. In addition, most modern cameras can shoot at higher iso when lighting is not good. Setting your iso to auto can help you get shots that you would not ordinarily be able to do

What isn't crazy is that the R6 performs so well. What IS crazy is that the 1DX did nearly as well, almost imperceptible to 10,000 and barely different a bit beyond. Most photographers. never shoot that high so what this tells most of us is that either camera is amazing in low light, even with one camera so many years old. Absolutely awesome.

Thanks a lovely review. I shoot motorsport mainly bikes Moto X, and race bikes. I mounted my old EF 70-200mm f2/8 IS ll on the newly purchased R6MKll, I could not run to upgrading my lenses so I bought the standard adapter. I have found the images to be tack sharp, one thing I did not know was the mechanical FPS went down to 9 per sec, so thanks for the heads up.

Canon still uses OUTDATED decades old front-lit CMOS sensors Sony A7sIII is superior but still has problems. By now industry should have been moving to new sensor technology such as SPAD or x1000 more sensitive graphene sensors.

Rob, I currently do sports photography here in the US. I have a 1DX and a R6 Mark II. I was thunking about adding the R7. Seeing you were adding it to your gear I was wondering how it worked out and is it beneficial. I keep the 1DX because my 300mm f2.8 does not work well with the R6 Mark II.

Great to see you back with another video! This Q&A was super insightful, especially for those of us interested in photography. I appreciate the practical tips on dealing with challenges like captioning in sports photography and organizing files. Your advice on transitioning from free work to paid gigs is really helpful, and it's encouraging to hear about your journey and confidence-building in the industry. Looking forward to the behind-the-scenes vlog at the football game-sounds like it'll be a fun watch! Keep up the great work!

I just stumbled on your videos over a year after buying my R7. I have been using it for sports but always felt I could be doing better with it. After watching your videos on it, it sounds like I made a great choice and I'm hoping using the settings you recommend will at least get me in the right direction.

ISO doesn't increase the amount of light gathered. Only aperture and shutter speed can determine that. ISO is basically gain that is digitally added to the photo after the fact.

A canon R7 is out of my budget and normally A D7 mark II is out of my budget a couple of months ago i picked up a canon 1000D really cheap Then a couple of months later when going back to the store that i got my 1000D i noticed a D7 mark II at the maximum price that I am prepared to pay for a camera brand new or second hand if its a model that i really like because when buying used cameras their is a certain risk involved while the camera may look in great shape from the outside the history of the camera may be like a blank book because the places i shop aren't specialist camera stores that will charge a premium price for the second hand equipment but are a general second hand goods store that sell electrical goods and therefore believe in selling stuff at a slightly lower price in order to find a buyer and also aren't really interested in the history of the item but do check for any faults which they would inform any potential buyer of so I like to limit the risk as i personally dont like spending a lot of money on second hand equipment that may or may not break down 2 or 3 years latter after light use because i own multiple cameras and i also have a budget as well so I like to think that any money spent on a hobby is money that is wisely spent and the canon D7 mark Ii was about the same price that I payed for a brand new Kodak AZ 425 bridge camera that will last a good few years if its looked after and that was money well spent
@alecbuxton76342 ай бұрын
I recently pick up a 7D mark II Completely on the spur of the moment because i was big chain general second hand stores while in one i became interested in a nikon b500 bridge camera then at the back of the display case was a canon D7 mark II at twice the price which was a fantastic bargain which i just had to snap up because not only do canon make good cameras but i also decided that is would he a nice addition to my older and cheaper 1000D which came with a standard kit Lens but the D7 Mark Ii came with a yongnuo 50mm 1.8 lens And it would also be compatible with my 1000D as both cameras have the EF mount giving even more flexibility for such a bargain price which is always a good thing if you are on a budget and one of the major expenses With DSLR cameras is lenses as some people literally spend thousands on lenses alone but if you hunt about you can get some quite cheap ones if you are lucky enough

How about the R7 with the R5 in crop mode! The noise is terrible in the 7Dii because it is old, though it is more usable now with denoise software. The R5 sensor is better in low noise and you rarely need 32mb in crop. I think the R5 is 17mp in crop mode, close to the 7D.
