4 ML definately qualifies as a crit seeker setup. Sure it straddles the line between poking holes and getting hits.....but it's valied IMHO. It's not as heat efficient as SRMs but still.....

Surprisingly this is the same build i did on the hbs battletech and made a sheet for it. An absolute monster against lights and mediums. The only difference between our builds is that mine has two additional heat sinks to offset the medium lasers. Though I'm still not sure if I made the right call in trading the jump jets for the heatsinks.

Is there any specific color pattern you "have to follow" or can you have a custom color/camo scheme, and is there room for fan made factions kinda like custom space marine chapters in warhammer 40k

I love the Shadow Hawk for 200 ton jobs. It needs modified with double heatsinks and I fitted an U-AC. It feels like a much smaller mech.

If there is a mech that does the same job as a tank, which do you want? It depends. Awesome 8Q and the Schrek are both 80 ton 3/5 with 3 PPC's. The Awesome is quite a bit more durable, but it also costs about substantially more in terms of C-Bills and Battle Value, so it's fairly situational which is better. Concerning the role of a scout... You can fit 3 hovercraft and/or VTOLs into the same dropship tonage space as 2 locusts and they are cheaper. It's really hard to justify not using vehicles for scouting.

The locust's 2 machine guns totally threaten an infantry platoon. Each gun does 2d6 extra damage against infantry, ignoring infantry damage reduction. That damage is doubled if the platoon isn't in cover. Plus it can step on them. If you're playing with forced withdrawal rules, then the infantry platoon is totally getting taken off the field. If you're playing with the battlefield support stat cards for infantry, that infantry platoon is DEAD.

I'm planning to try building a few custom mechs for a Mercenary company I'm hoping to play as. These tips helped pretty good, but I was hoping for more in depth about using C-bills VS Battle Value. One comment I've got about how realistic it would be to have ammo/heat sinks in the legs argument... I like to try and think of how the loading mechanisms for the mech would work. I.e. how does a shell for an AC/10 actually get loaded in the cannon from the ammo rack? My personal preference and opinion on ammo placement is that ammo should be stored no more than one "section" of the mech away from whatever weapon uses that ammo. If you had guns in the mech's legs, yeah, run ammo in it. If they don't have guns in the legs, then it would be unrealistic. You would need a convoluted loading system to transport those shells/missiles from the ammo rack in the legs to whatever weapon it used, elsewhere in the mech. That loading system could interfere with movement actuators, hydraulic hoses, ect. Heat sinks in legs, on the other hand, are actually somewhat realistic. Sinks are part of a cooling system, which is much more flexible in the ways they can be piped and run through a machine. It's basically coolant pipes that carry water and coolant, much like you would find on a radiator in a car. It would make total sense to actually have a sink or two stored in the legs as a way to "ground" the heat of a mech.

I must admit - initially I was not really that impressed with Wolverine. Introtech era mechs are often undergunned. But for 5 tons less, you can get yourself a Centurion with potent AC-10, 2 medium lasers and LRM-10. That is solid. Wolverine is vastly more mobile, but still, it is hard to argue with that firepower alone - especially in era that is notoriously starved for firepower. Or you could get a Hunchback... Can't argue with Hunchback. And this is where 6M variant comes in - LL, 2xML, SRM6. This is a beast for that era. This is a wonderful flanker, medium brawler or an anchor unit for a lighter lance. You get good durability, good mobility and firepower is decent enough to be a credible threat to all but the heaviest opponents. Speed, jump jets and armour combination makes it deceptively survivable.

Year later, but for your stormbreaker refit, if you are already doing a refit, can you split your LRM ammo into 2 locations, so you can eject ammo in threatened locations while preserving ammo in an untouched location? Or can you shift the ammo to a side torso and install case if its available per your tech and resource level, at the cost of a flamer?

Centurion on table top: ewww autocanon that can only be souced from New Avalon, takes a week to repair in it's own right and months to replace. Centurion in HBS Battletech: Shield Arm is pointless as we have no control over turso spin. Centurion in Mechwarrior video games "I'm meta."

All my Battletech stuff still has the FASA logo. So when I teach someone to play. I start them with the Shadowhawk SDH-2D. It carries energy, ballistic, and missle weapon systems. Can jump, and it has good enough armor. So, it covers all of the base rules in one package.
