Thanks Craig,it can be quite frustrating at times building everyone else’s dream cars and seeing mine sat in the corner untouched. It certainly makes me feel better about things when I can see a little bit of progress on my own build, sadly Craig you won’t see a single Samco blue hose on my car,I know it will disappoint a lot of people but I just can’t do it🤣🤣🤣

When I sold this car to my brother back in 2012 he did the same as your car,he welded the back doors up and fitted tarmac arches but never completed the car then sold it on,the next owner then undone all this work to turn it back to a 4 door but again never got the car roadworthy and it was sold again and left in a barn untouched for many years until it came up for sale again and I ended up buying it back many years later

Well, you've got your work cut out for you. I do like the budget builds because the work you put in you can see that you have put heart and soul into the build. Also it's good you got the 2nd body. It pity it can't be saved but will go to building up the 2 door. Maybe you can sneak more work on the car throughout the year.

I’m under no illusion this is gonna be easy,lots of fab/panel work to go but I think it’ll be worth it,I get great satisfaction from doing everything myself and this build will be no different in that respect. I’m hoping to spend more time on it this year,I’m not getting any younger so I need to push on a bit more with it

Hello @stecozz4907 the issue isn’t actually the circlip,the issue is it has the incorrect speedo cable so the circlip won’t clip into the tail housing hence why it’s hanging out,basically the speedo cable needs swapping for the right one

@SCClassics2022 thank you, yes it was a lovely example, a very rare midnight blue custom with black interior. I also had a signal yellow custom before that and mk1 rs2000 in red with the bubble arches too. I'd love to own one again but way out of my price range now.

Happy new year @ozbrick498, I’m glad my videos have been of help to you and your own build,I try and explain everything I’m doing so that someone building one of these cars for the first time can use the info productively. As for lining doors the only info I can give is mask all the edges so your paintwork doesn’t get damaged when installing them,get yourself a second set of hands to hold the door while your inside tightening the nuts etc. Get the striker plate on the B post and door catch fitted as that’ll help line the door up,leave the door basically bare as it’ll be lighter to manhandle,get it where you want it and then build all the internals,glass etc and recheck alignment as the weight of the glass etc can cause the door to drop. Not much more I can tell you really.

Hello @craigorford9932 in an ideal world yes,I could potentially tap it down with a block of wood but my concern would be not knowing what I’m hitting,if it was all steel then I’d crack on but generally there’s usually some body filler involved with hiding new panels and if that broke then I’d be into a much bigger job and I have to be mindful of the budget the owner wants to spend. I look forward to hearing from you👍

The mystery issue with the gearbox crossmember! On a Type 9 conversion that I carried out, the difference in length between the standard Type E gearbox and the Type 9 was approximately 85mm, when I was moving the tunnel mounts back.

Yeah they’ve not been moved 85mm but somethings not quite right,the box is in an mounted so it’ll have to stay that way for the time being

@@SCClassics2022 It's as if the old stretched engine mountings have been fitted back at the wrong orientation, resulting in the holes not aligning up on the gearbox mount.

The engine mounts were in the correct orientation when I removed them and they’ve gone back in the correct orientation so it’s left me a little confused. I may investigate further but that would be for sheer curiosity as the gearbox mount is working and not causing any issues

@ the floor pans have been reinforced to take the load,this isn’t the first time this type of mount has been used on a mk2 escort,a lot of rally cars use this type of mount and take years of abuse without any issues so I’m sure it’ll work on this escort

I don't doubt it will be fine It just looks a bit strange to me having something that hefty that just ends in the middle of a floor pan. If it sent the load into something like the seat rails or the chassis rails maybe. Sorry man it's your car and it's up to you how you build it

There are two cam covers with different width flanges. A modified version which was introduced around 1982 due to oil leaks which were caused by the overtightening of the flange bolts. A number of Ford improvements were made to help address the problem, these were to widen the flange and introduce butterfly washers under the bolts to spread out the pressure. A new wider gasket was also introduced with metal studs incorporated into the gasket to stop it crushing. Your aftermarket cam cover may be based on the old cover or the modified one. It is worth investigating to see if you have the right gasket for the aftermarket Alloy cam cover. I would expect that by fitting the wide gasket in an early narrow flange cam cover design would be likely to cause you the problems you are experiencing. I hope this is of help to you. Well as I've just noticed, for next time.

Thank you for the info, I am aware of the two gaskets ie early and late pinto. Thankfully the oil leak is cured but if it throws anymore problems in the future I may try a later wide flange gasket and see if that works better

The navy blue on a rs2000 would have been midnight blue,this is possibly my worst colour for a rs2000,I know some people love it and that’s fine,it just does nothing for me. Come a long way with this. Looking at that door you may have to settle for as good as possible without getting into paint correcting the door. Is the boot spoiler out of shape or holes not in the right place?

Yeah Nora has come a long way since she landed here at SC. I’ll have a go at tweaking the door but I don’t think I’m gonna be able to get it much better without surgery and paint. I think the spoiler might be a bit misshaped possibly from being stored badly for years,I’ve not added it to my list but it is on my mental list of things to address before she leaves
