University of Houston is my dream school. It’s the summer before my junior year and I’ll be attending a summer program they offer for high schoolers interested in architecture. Unfortunately, I can’t take art in high school because the teacher really doesn’t like my work. I took art 1 my freshman year but she was so mean towards me. I ended the year with a B. I feel like art class should be an easy A as long as you put forth the effort. And I definitely did. That class killed my gpa. So while I would love to carry on in higher art classes, I just can’t afford to have a lower gpa because I know that it’s hard to get accepted to an architecture major. I feel like a 3.87/4.0 (my current gpa) is barely enough to have a chance.

Interesting but the "shear wall/ elevator core" acted as "shear break" for the collapsed floors on this section of the tower... What I am saying is that the rebat was NOT continuous across the collapsed floors into the stanfing structure... If, that steel was continuous, I brleieve it would have engulfed the entire structure... The rebar stoped at the walls with "j-bent bar design" and this, of courses was because of the stairwell and elevator requirements of solid walls... Notice that beyond this "shear wall" that the collapsed floors pulled down at least one room beyond the shear walls... I have over 200 videos on this structure and am confident of even how the roof collapsed during this failure (i have a series on just the roof failure alone)... Wish u the best.

Ps No. Construction next door did not cause failure.

Architecture is fun!! ….. I came from a poor Blacktown family (2003) went to Western Sydney (studied bachelor of construction 2004) got my first job 2008 …. Made my first million developing Blacktown 4-plex (2012) retired 2020 (Covid) decided what will be a fun way to end my life (pilot) or (Architecture)?? Choose UTS … Architecture for fun 🤩… if a designer called Prada puts her heart ❤️ into a design spends 90 hours making a custom piece BUT no one buys it!! THEN fffk it!! she will wear it herself!! SAME IDEOLOGY!! If I spend 200 hours designing my own duplex then … spend 12 months building it USING MY OWN builders licence!! if NO ONE wants to buy it!! THEN fffk it!! I will rent it out for the next 5 years ….. Like the “House of Prada” I am going to turn my 2 & 5yr old children into great designers, hopefully 🙏 50yrs from now!! Nabila Design Studio will be a well known design house!! if not me … my children and my grandchildren will have amazing life experiences 💋……I spend 3 hours every night 5 days per week teaching my children to draw ✍️……(2024)

Hello my question is I completed my 4 year bachelor's degree in interior design in 2012 in my back home but I want to become an architect in Canada. Without further study in architecture can i become an architect? Is there any other way like I will take training under a licensed architect in Canada and give an exam for the license architect!

How much did they “save” by not going all the way to the bedrock ? fixing it would cost $120 Million aprox and still a big doubt.

I got admitted to uoft's architecture program but I'm not sure if i should accept coz i heard that its not the best. I also got accepted into psychology there so I'm not sure what to pick. I'm still waiting to hear back from waterloo for architecture and its my top choice but its unlikely that i get into it and i haven't been accepted anywhere else for architecture. although I'm more passionate about architecture, I'm not sure if i should pick it coz its a bachelor of arts and I'm scared i wont be able to go far with that. i also hear so many people complaining abt the field and the degree and its kinda scaring me. what should i pick?

I've heard Hamburger's lame responses for several years. #1) Not only has he ALWAYS pointed fingers elsewhere, or dismissed real issues, based on conjecture, but has also pointed fingers elsewhere and when his 'fix' didn't work. #2) When building a property, its foundations should NOT be so marginally stable that no one else can build on adjacent/nearby properties. (thereby destroying the value of nearby land) #3) It is utterly incredulous that there's even a question about the foundation's design anticipating steel or concrete construction, let alone the structure's weight.

Hi Ashley, I really liked your tips on this video! What do you recommend for someone with a more technical background who didn't go through so much in the process of creation and didn't keep the drawing files from previous companies? I'm struggling with finding material of what I did to show in my portfolio... Thanks!

just for future reference... Gehry main source of income other than architecture is maintenance. His buildings are complex curves and bends and often cannot be maintained or cleaned by conventional methods... so he's developed a maintenance package through an association with his practice for rigging and scaffolding able to clean the buildings, mainly external facades. He makes that as an ongoing profit for all his buildings for as long as they are standing. Its a money machine. If you include that business he'd eclipse all others by a mile! also firm charges 10-15% of construction cost on fees and thats Gehry Partners. Then Franks time is 4-5% on top of that. so a $500M building has $50-75M in fees (of which frank is a share holder) and he earns personally $20-25M. keeping in mind $500M is an extremely small job for his firm.

I am VE5VV this is a bit technical but still 1- concert can last an extremely long time with no steel see the The Pantheon almost 900 years old 2- I still dont know why this building needed a pool in the first place 3- the extra story in this building really should not have caused collapse 4- it should not be up to residence to inspect there building for structural stability 5- there are major problems with the design of the colons and how they connected to the slabs ( where are the sturips and coulomb reinforcements in those coulombs , and why are rebars shooting out from them ) 6- why did the city not immediately order an evacuation from the building when its condition was known to the city 7-Why was the hole building not evacuated when a problem was noted !!!!!! 8- its all well and good to have stairs but some people can not use stairs and stair wells must not have there exists only clogged with debris , everybody must be able to evacuate , not only the able bodied ( this is not 1940s Germany and we cant just let the disabled die ) 9-If there is a fire put your hand on the door before opening it and see if it is hot , if the door is hot do not open it , have a smoke mask , have a long rope , have a wool blanket( yes 100% wool ) you can soak to escape under 10-Do not just report problems to building management they have an monetary interest in keeping the revenue coming in , also inform the fire department or city who have an interest in people still being alive ( those are not even close to the same thing )
