I don't understand why 3 times. If I take the car to Honda for AT fluid change am I going to have to bring the car back 3 times?
@MarkDHall4 күн бұрын
Hi Jim. The service manual (not the owner's manual) recommends flushing the transmission three times because there’s still fluid in the transmission lines and torque converter after just one flush. If you have it done at a shop, they should schedule you for 3 flushes, but I don't know if they actually do that.

Do you change the oil too?
@MarkDHall14 күн бұрын
Hi, @MrBud007. We didn't change the oil because we had just done it before our last trip, which was only 2-3 hours of use. We had planned to go out more last fall, but the weather was bad, and that trip ended up being our last. If we'd gone out more, we would have changed it again. This year is similar. We just changed it and have only gone out one time since then. We're hoping for good weather this fall so we can go out a couple more times, but if not, we'll still change it when we winterize them because our last trip was to the ocean. If you're interested in watching an oil change, here's a link to the video of the oil change we just did: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2a5qWeHoZd_ic0

Thanks for sharing. Re: oil change, I found two other channels where the process is documented quite well: trythistv and Floatsorrolls (those guys actually post pics of the service manual). Not sure how crucial this step is but the manual calls for the oil to be removed from two spots: rubber hose leading to the bottom of the crank case and the oil fill / dipstick. Also, you could wait with oil filter removal only after the oil is extracted; the manual recommends punching a hole on the top to help with oil draining. This way, there should be virtually no mess when removing punctured and drained filter. Thanks for the part numbers for the filter and the battery. Have been using OEM Yamaha filters but may end up using FRAMs at some point.
@MarkDHall7 күн бұрын
You're welcome. I will take a look at the videos you suggest. I like learning as much as I can about things like that. Regarding the rubber hose: I asked Matt and said he did that but forgot to tell me, so I didn't record it or even know he'd done it. We'll be winterizing the machines soon, and we'll change the oil then, so I may redo this video and make it better. Thanks for watching the other video links!

Hi, for Christmas my brother gave me a set of Boat plugs to celerate him going fishing & made it back with a boat full of water, we cleaned it night before as a favour, but never told him. Pulled plug to drain cleaning water.
@MarkDHall23 күн бұрын
Whoops! At first he probably appreciated you washing the boat but maybe not so much by the end of the boating trip. If he still boats, I bet he probably doesn't launch it without checking to see if the plugs are in now. In many states, new laws make it illegal to transport a boat with the drain plugs in to stop the spread of invasive species.

I heard them say they weren't sure what they hit. They mentioned a submerged wall, which is possible. There are a lot of them in the river, and the water was down about 2 feet that day. But, a log is totally possible too. They seem to be in the river at all times, even when it hasn't rained for a few days.

To be fair, they could be experienced. The river is full of hazards that aren't on a chart and can't be seen. We once hit a submerged wall doing 5 MPH. It wasn't shown on a paper or electronic chart, and visibility was less than a foot. When we took it to the dealer, they said, "Oh yeah, that's a pretty known hazard, but no one had told us...

@MarkDHall I get it. But I am a licensed captain and operator. If and when the wind / weather picks up, you need to be safe. When operatoring any boat / vessel with passengers, safety is the only thing you should be worried about. Those waves and conditions were way too rough for that boat. He's not the only one, I've seen experienced operators get in bad situations as well. Take good care, and may God bless you and keep you!!

I would be concerned about the V-drive without any way to trim it up. All our outboards had a "safety" that kicked the motor up if they hit something. We only hit something once, and it prevented serious damage. The prop got bent and had to be fixed, but the lower end was fine. Granted, we were doing 5 MPH, so I don't know how it would have been if we were going faster.
