I’m a little bit confused. I understand the intent behind being against this ban, but isn’t this poorly thought through? As Christians, our aim is to plant seeds, to make disciples, by sharing the gospel with others in hopes that they’ll come to faith in Christ, then let God do the work in removing their sin issue. Our job isn’t to forcibly stop sin in their life. Correct me if I’m lacking in any information.

Excellent point on the ban's impact on human rights. A question off the back of this: How will Christians defend the preaching of the Gospel and its call for people to repent of sin? Preaching is not consensual in the same way that pastoral counselling is, and so this argument from human rights doesn't apply. We could argue from the freedom of speech, but everyone believes on limits to this freedom. Why shouldn't the supposed harm that gospel preaching might do to LGTQ people be a reason to see gospel preaching as an exception to the freedom of speech, just as calls to violence are? It seems that at some point we are going to have to make our religious presuppositions clear and argue from them. Standing on the shrinking middle ground between the biblical world-view and the world seems like we're only biding our time.

This is very concerning, further restriction on Christian liberty. You can see the fingerprints of the devil all over this: any attacks on "conversion" however they are dressed up and justified are an attack on the gospel and evangelism. Consensual conversations and prayers should never be criminalised, and calling people to repentance is an essential part of proclaiming the gospel. This new government is off to a terrible start.

For anyone reading the proposed bans and wondering how they will outlaw prayer & conversations on the topic: The definition of conversion therapy centers on intentions - the bans are targeting practices that "seek" to overturn or suppress G.I. & S.O. By adopting this definition, it opens up the possibility for bad motives to be attributed to anyone speaking about these matters. Hence, no speech on this topic is truly protected.

Nobody can stop someone choosing to repent and accept Jesus Christ as their saviour and as long as the gospel is still preached it remains possible, if God wills it, not the king or his ministers.

I recently found jesus and he's helped me in so many ways see the wrongs I was doing. Myself, wife and our 3 children attend our local church every week but this is scary, dangerous too. I don't want the church of england to try and manipulate my children into thinking this is the way of God. I'll be sad if we have to stop attending.

Not all Christians believe same sex marriage is wrong. I'm very excited about the pastoral principles of living in love and faith, which are pretty hard to argue with. I would like to contend that there are many of us who do not see recognising homosexual committed monogamous love as counter scriptural, and do not see this as "putting culture over Scripture". If anything, this particular hard-line sect / cult are so passionate about preserving their own micro culture of 'distinctiveness' to maintain their perilous grip on control, with a fear based model of compliance, that they have abandoned discernment and the mercy of God in favour of a pharisitic worship of legalism and misplaced pride. Millstones, the lot of them. The references to Timothy and Titus here are somewhat spurious. The main message of those passages is to choose leaders of good character, and are not about sexuality. Paul, in his letters, and especially in Romans, uses almost bizarre Greek words to make his point about homosexuality. And if this truly, truly was to become a key church point of discipline, why are there so few verses, and why are such bizarre Greek words used? In the Bible, where the most fundamental doctrines are being expressed, the most fundamental language is used, and it is repeated the most. [For anyone who hasn't heard this before, the references to homosexuality could arguably be exhortations not to conduct non-consenual s*x, s*x with a child, or s*x with someone who is being exploited] Christian Concern, and this small group trying to 'save the CofE to protect national freedom of worship', please stop trying to claim that you are the only ones trying to protect Scripture and the true faith. This is simply not the case. The so-called doctrines and disciplines that you are trying to make your main points of focus are cruel, and not of God. Instead, blessed are the merciful. The yoke of Christ is supposed to be easy, and His burden light. It is the weary who are supposed to find rest in Christ. But you, having hardened your hearts, would rather let a donkey die in a ditch on a Sabbath, or leave a man blind, than let committed people love each other publicly. Shame on you

2 Corinthians 6 : 14-18 in the King James Bible. Question : How many of you self professing Christian folk use the modern ( post 1881) so-called bibles ? They are ALL based on the 1881 rsv produced by the c of e heretics Wescott and Hort. They yse less than 1% of the extant mss. They come from the heavily corrupted Alexandrian swamp via the vatican. The King James Bible is the Pure and Preserved word of Almighty God in English.

The Church is conforming to the values of our society it is sad that Christ gave us the rules to live by, if you change from good to bad then you face the consequences of doing wrong.

As Christians we must keep praying for CoE which has been hijacked by the spirit that is in the World, whose main purpose is to disfigure the truths of the word of God! As a fellow believer, I stand with you Rebecca for your stand on this. However, I think that Jesus was rather clear on how such matters should be dealt with in Matthew 18:15-20. We are an application of this in 1 Corinthians 5 and again in 1 Timothy 1 and 2 Timothy 2. Sadly, much has changed in the CoE in the last number of years and it will be difficult to apply church discipline once the horse has bolted. How I wish we believers would just read and apply what the Bible says in it lives: we would be so much the better for it.

The CofE will simply cease to exist. What thinking person is going to seriously consider a religion that disowns doctrines in place since its foundation, just so as to move with the times. Such an organization is palpably a human construct that can not possibly make claims on transcendent revelation.
