Hey Nani, Gus, and Briana! Happy Holidays, everyone! Screen Crush is pretty neat. I've seen some of their videos before. They're awesome :). Like Briana, I'm a big fan of Marvel (movies + comics) :). Andor is a wonderful show to start with. Briana's journey is awesome! That's cool that Ryan is understanding and doesn't expect staff to watch every show and read every book, etc. It's awesome how he has much knowledge of Star Wars :). Also, Briana's shirt is cool! Great points. I like your approach, Gus. You approach it in a constructive way :). I wasn't a big fan of the Acolyte, but I agree that Disney didn't promote it as much and could've done more to boost it. I second Brianna. I also felt there were structural issues, but I too don't get the issues people have with the diversity of the show (and other shows and movies). Yes :) S1E5 is fun. I am enjoying the show thus far :) Like Nani, I like how fun it is. Also, like Nani, I wasn't as excited, but I am enjoying it and am stoked to see more also :). Good point. Gus, I really like how you bring up the social commentary and broader message. It helps me appreciate the show even more. It definitely had Indiana Jones vibes :). I agree, Nani, it is a kid-friendly show altogether, but also is dark in some ways and balances it out well to appeal to everyone. That's tough to pull off. But, the showrunners, cast, and crew are doing a nice job. I agree with Briana. I don't think he wants to kill or injure them. He is selfish, but yeah, he does have a moral code of sorts (in that yes, he will betray the kids, but not kill them or injure them). I agree with Nani - he isn't fully evil or fully good either. I too think he's like a lost boy. I personally think he'll change and do the right thing in the end. But, it will be a gradual change IMO. Good point about the parallels between the kids and their parents. It's spot on. Nani, I too am glad to see the parents doing what they can and not being useless. It absolutely makes the show better. It's refreshing. Yeah, he likely is a jedi, though he may have been a kid during Order 66 - otherwise, as Nani said, he'd be pretty old. Great discussion about the credits. Awesome theories :). Yay!! I appreciate your responses :) I hadn't seen The Iron Giant, but I can see SM-33 realizing free will :) And yeah, I too am worried for the kids since they fell down the trap. lol yeah I agree that it was bound to happen. Yeah, I can also see them being away from each other for an episode :). I like all of your theories :) LOL yes I can see an Avengers moment :) That'd be awesome :). Ooh, I can see the parents finding Jod. The co-worker joke is funny lol :). Good point, Brianna. Yeah, after thinking about it more and hearing your thoughts, it likely is a stretch for the Supervisor to be the SM-33 captain. It's a theory that I saw in a comment somewhere (and I think it's plausible), but I don't think it's the case. LOL I wouldn't like it if Jod was a Palpatine clone. Ooh, I wonder if he was a former inquisitor. That's possible. Fun and awesome episode! Brianna is a cool guest. :) Take care. Have a great new year and Happy Holidays :)!

Hey Gus, Nani, and Jessica! Great points about social media. I've pretty much gone inactive on social media. Jessica's journey with Star Wars is cool. It's so cool that she got to go to a convention this year :). It's cool that she wanted to create a space for people to share why they love Star Wars and how it helps them. I don't think I heard of Tales of the Force, but after hearing Jessica talk about it, I want to listen to it :). Her podcast sounds great and I found what she said resonating. Star Wars and other media can definitely help people through difficult times. I know Star Wars has given me hope and superheroes and other fictional characters have inspired me and have had a huge impact on my life. I think it's cool that she's empathetic :) Jessica makes a great point. Things that are rushed do have issues, and I am not a fan of how there has been this push on creators to rush their shows/movies/etc. Creating is tough. I know I've run into struggles with writing and drawing (and I do both more for fun). The stakes and struggles are so much higher for a Star Wars show, a Marvel movie, etc. I agree. "This has been such a fun little surprise". Jessica is spot on! I'm an adult and I love the show so far :D. The pirate aspect and 80s vibe are great! I agree with Nani. There have been a lot of good surprises! And, I concur. Fern has been vulnerable and that was a moving and great scene. The characterization is solid. I too like how Neel shined in this episode. He was great and it was great to see how kindness has such a great impact (this is so important in our world). I agree with Jessica that it's great that the adults talk with the kids about difficult issues and challenges that our world faces - rather than ignoring it or treating it as nothing. Kids are curious and are smarter than many people think - and these issues affect them also. The show is handling this in a great way - it balances out the light and dark well. You're right, Gus, that there are many horrors that kids are experiencing around the world. And, we are privileged here to not have to live in safety and security. Lol I too was surprised when they believed they were home. Hayna is cool. And yeah, you're right, Gus, her father's thoughts are identical to how people look down on younger generations. You're right too about kindness, Gus and Jessica. One reason why I like Neel and Ahsoka is their kindness :). Kindness is strength and I am not a fan of how those who are kind are usually portrayed as those who are easily tricked. I agree, Nani, they've done a fantastic job with his characterization. We got to see his strength (kindness) here. Yes, Jessica - I concur that it's been great to see how the kids handle various situations. They handle it well. It's realistically written also. It feels genuine. Nice episode! Jessica is a cool guest! Take care. :) Have a wonderful holiday season :)!

Great to see you back! It was great hearing Crystal's expertise and thoughts about makeup in Star Wars. I didn't notice the issues before as I haven't paid as close attention to makeup but it was cool to hear Crystal, Nani, and Gus' thoughts. I love Skeleton Crew! Like Nani, I noticed how Fern and KB were much more skeptical and cautious (rightfully so). Wim and Neel are too trusting. I want to know more about Jod and it intrigues me how he has 3 nicknames. I do think he was genuine when he said he is lost but I want to know his endgame and his backstory with the owl character. KB is awesome! Like Crystal, I am Asian and I like how she and her mom are written. I also like how the kids are written genuinely. I too like how the mysteries are being revealed gradually overall. And the social commentary with At-Attin is spot on. Great podcast episode. Take care 😊

Hey Gus and Ken! How are you? I am sorry to hear that Nani is under the weather. I hope she feels better soon! Please share my best wishes with her. Also, congrats to her for passing the bar! That's wonderful :) Go Nani! You both makes a great point. There was SO MUCH vitriol over the Acolyte and Last Jedi. While I wasn't the biggest fan of them, I felt that a lot of the discourse was incredibly toxic and hateful. I remember some hated the Acolyte even before it came out. It's terrible. Ken makes a great point too about how the hope has dimmed since the election too. I know my hope has and it's been easy to feel jaded. But, Star Wars reminds me to not lose hope. Initially, I was somewhat excited for Skeleton Crew. Like you, Gus, I wasn't super excited at first. But, when I saw the trailer, I became pretty excited :). :) Skeleton Crew has been cool so far! I also love the cinematography! I also appreciate what you both said about the suburb setting. As you both indicated, there are all different kinds of places throughout the world - and thus, that's also the same in the Star Wars universe. There are many different types of places. And, you're right, Gus, a suburban setting would look different and possibly even strange to people in other countries. I've been to a few European cities and the differences between Europe and the U.S. are clear too. I also remember seeing smaller houses in a part of London that I visited and the houses were much closer together - which is way different than houses in a U.S. suburb. Excellent points about the focus on conformity and the parallels to real life. It reminds me of how there is a focus on being productive and how some people have looked down on people with background in the arts and other creative fields overall rather than fields like engineering or medicine. While there is nothing wrong about seeking a career in any of the aforementioned fields, there is too much focus on being 'productive' and a toxic outlook of seeing creative fields as 'not serious', 'not practical', etc. In Skeleton Crew, Wim is scoffed at for his hopes and dreams. The portrayal of parents is also realistic (and I agree they aren't antagonists or evil). They understandably want their kids to be successful and while they likely (I agree with you both) had high hopes and dreams then, it's gone now from them due to the norms and expectations of At-Attin (and reinforced by those in charge there). I too don't think Jod is a Jedi. :) I like the speculation you both shared. :) Good episode. Take care, Gus, Ken, and Nani!

When Gus mentioned them living in a 2D vs 3D world, it really reminded me of wizard of oz. I've already been getting those vibes with the whole thing about the treasure being their home (no further than their own backyard) but the kid dreaming about a better place and then some chaotic event literally throwing them into it, only for it to be more dangerous than they thought (from 2D to 3D, or black and white to color) really feels like some oz vibes.

Acolyte was doomed to fail. They committed the cardinal sin in a cinematic universe. They bought lucas film because it was insanely popular (with males) and then turned around and ignored the fan base and sought different fans. In their tunnel vision attempt to bring in women, they disenfranchised the original fanbase and destroyed their multi billion dollar prize. This was not the next victim of streaming platforms...its the latest victim of ignorance in power

Funny because I’ve been a fan since Empire strikes back came out and not a racist white man, I’m a queer Lakota Woman. As such most of my friends are also Brown folks many of who were Star Wars fans since they were kids also. Disney realized that the racist white men were not the only fan base and never was.
@PLAtime3653 ай бұрын
@@AuntyKsTarot I stand by my statements. George Lucas himself admits that Star Wars was written for fathers and sons. Hence it attracted a mostly male audience. Disney chose to ignore them and demonize the core fanbase. It has resulted in failure. If I am so wrong and the "true fans" as you claim do not agree with me, then why are all your shows failing? Acolyte had the worst view time on record. Where were all you "true fans"? Why didn't you watch? Truth is, you all did and the numbers show I am right. All of you together amounted to cancellation level viewership. Without the fans I speak for, the actual core fanbase, star wars is dead. Cry all you like, it does not change reality. If you speak for the majority, why couldn't you support the show and make it a success. It does not matter who hates it if you are in the majority and you all support it, it would have succeeded. So go call out racism and sexism and any other ism you like. It's just the sound of kids throwing tantrums.
