With the song in Dumbo...i dont think they were trying to be racist. I think they were just trying to represent history and say that the elephants were treated like slaves

I think what makes someone racist if they expect said group people to act like these racist caricature without thinking if it's true or not. This includes live action depictions too.

Don't see a problem with any of it, considering the time they were made and if anything being overly sensitive to this stuff has caused way more problems

Why is Tarzan always white? Disney doesn't have the heart to show a black man who looks like a primate and leaps through trees like an animal. Even if my country Russia is shown stereotypically without insulting state symbols and authorities, I am not offended.

"The point of our video is not to promote racism or to make fun of this issue, but to show how pervasive and institutionalized racism was in our culture just a short time ago." IT STILL IS. Don't be fooled.

No ones saying racism still doesn’t exist, it’s just acknowledging how widespread and normalized it was back then and how stuff like this was socially acceptable
@arikoment356010 күн бұрын
@@sytincer5708 You aren't understanding what I'm saying. I'm saying that their claim is that institutionalized racism is no longer as pervasive, when in fact it never truly died down. The only difference is that the racists internalized their racism. The last 8 months has proved this point.

Some of the Japanese depictions must be taken in the context of the time of their creation, i.e., WW-II when the US was at war with Japan. Hollywood certainly did their share in the propaganda department, and de-humanizing an enemy was part of it.

In the early 90s my family had to clear out a house for some relatives after some tenants that were renting their house vacated suddenly and left all their stuff there. In all the junk, they had a cardboard box full of VHS tapes of really old cartoons. That was how I was introduced to all the really racist shit that Warner Bros used to do. Once we found them, we started showing them to other kids we knew and it wasn't long before they knew and were quoting lines from the cartoons, as well.
