May I respectfully repeat the question posed earlier ... why? What is the point? There is an annual (supported) race that takes around 13-14 hours If you wish to participate then apply to take part. If you wish to enjoy the West Highland Way then take your time, enjoy the views, chat to other walkers and hear their stories, stop off and rest and enjoy the food and take pleasure in your success. What you are attempting is a stunt. A few months ago the BBC in Scotland were bigging up the story of some child having cycled the West Highland Way in some ridiculous time, like 24 hours. The actual purpose remained unstated. My personal reaction as a walker was one of despair. It was no better than a stunt. How long before the WHW becomes a target for mountain bikers taking it as a challenge and charging along the Way and yelling at walkers to get out of the way?
@infinitehighlands12 күн бұрын
It's a personal challenge. By the nature of your comment you don't see it that way, and that's great, we are all different. You suggest I run the race (it's supported, costs money and I don't want or need someone else to organise my holidays, plus you have to enter months in advance) or walk it and interact with others. I enjoy my time alone on the trails and in the mountains, maybe this isn't a trail to be alone on, and if you watch to the end of my video you see that I don't really enjoy it for that exact reason, I would rather be on the mountain tops than on lowland trails, I did it for the personal challenge a last minute decision when I had some time off. I filmed it as enjoy the filming and editing videos, it's a hobby (I make no commercial gain by doing so, on the contrary it costs me time and money to create these videos) I merely publish to KZbin so others can enjoy, be inspired or (like you) simply disagree with what I put in the public domain, free speech is great :). To you it's a stunt, to me it's a challenge. Why watch my video if it's not of interest to you, the title & thumbnail are clear and concise, no clickbating here! Have you done the trail yourself?

You're absolutely right-records are incredible achievements, but for me, the point is personal goals, fresh air, and the adventure of taking on a challenge myself.

You did well. I ran the WHW a couple of years ago in 8 days averaged around 12 miles a day. Loved it even though some days were more like swimming, but no midges yea! I had hoped this year to do it in 4 days but caught 100 day cough instead. So next year hopefully.
@infinitehighlandsАй бұрын
I wish you the best of luck for next year! At some point I will go back and do the last 60km, the question is do I try it in one day or two!?

Well done. I have to admit the Cairngorms do nothing for me compared to the mountains of the west. And that’s from someone who spent my 80s schooldays skiing them every winter.
@infinitehighlands5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes, the Cairngorms are more like rounded hills compared to the west coast mountains, but it's the forests around here that are special for me. Living with the Rothiemurchus forest on my doorstep means I get out running a few times a week whatever the weather, I literally just have to step out the house and cross the road, for me that makes it all worthwhile.

I think you were going too fast at the beginning. Personally, I would have gone slower, but many more hours of walking. That route can be walked in 48hrs at an average of 4km/h and even then you should still have over 10 hours to sleep. The question is whether you would enjoy walking at night, I take it as a diversion a few times a year.
@infinitehighlands5 ай бұрын
Thanks, I like the challenge in trying to run it. With the long daylight hours in June, maybe walking it would have been a better option! Thanks for watching my attempt!

Thanks. I used (an old version of) the Ultimate Direction Fastpack 20. It holds about 23 litres, just about big enough for everything I need to an overnight fastpack. I've also got the Fastpack 30 which I use for trips over two days.

I'll probably feel compelled to complete it one day. I'll either just run the last 60km in a day or head out with the wife and do it a slower pace. either way I have plenty of other ideas in mind first, so it won't be any time soon.

Different approach than mine. I took my time to walk the WHW in 10 Days to experience from landscape, culture and history as much as I can. But nice to see how to experience this trail in another way. Sorry to see it failed in the end, but anyway a brave achievement. Thank you for sharing.
@infinitehighlands6 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your approach! Taking ten days to fully immerse in the landscape, culture, and history sounds like a wonderful way to experience the West Highland Way. It's fascinating to see how different people tackle the same trail in various ways. Although my attempt was different and didn't go as planned, it was still an incredible experience.

i do this trail over 6 nights 7 days love the WHW on my 5th just soaking it all up and enjoying the wonderful scenery and hidden gems on the way thats on offer it is a slog but a great slog taking your time but a two day attempt thats punishment on this trail but hey god loves a trier as they say but this trail can find you out
@infinitehighlands6 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience. The West Highland Way is indeed a beautiful trail with so much to offer, and it's great to hear you're taking the time to soak it all in over six nights and seven days. Attempting it in two days was definitely challenging, but it was an adventure I wanted to take on. Every hiker’s journey is different, and that’s part of what makes the WHW so special.

I don't understand 'fastpacking'. I hiked the West Highland Way in April- to me, taking my time, soaking up the amazing scenery, chatting to people from all over the world along the way and feeling joy in nature is why I hike. I know everyone is different, but maybe take it slow sometime?
@infinitehighlands6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comments. I personally enjoy the physical challenge of pushing myself, I take a slower pace when I head out with the wife, like on our recent Cairngorm 4000's trip (another of my videos).

I agree with your comments on the fast pa what a fantastic route, all the same ching I think it is an individuals choice. I have tried both and enjoyed both but as I I’m getting older I don’t have any choice but a fantastic route just the same

Thanks for your comments. It was filmed on the 3rd May this year. The majority of the snow will now have melted, there may just be very small patches around in some of the more sheltered areas.
