Great video! I'm thinking about trying Elementor to build some sites for clients, but I'm worried that if I get any of the paid upgrades, and down the line cancel the subscription, it will crash my clients sites. Should this be a concern?

There is a subtle irony to people complaining about you being "restrictive" with the mistakes video. Now I disagreed with some of your points, such as sign-up fields one - I think a website should arange them in a specific way and only use what is required - but some I agreed with. You can still be fun and quirky as a website designer while sticking to rules. It applies anywhere where art is involved. Think of less of a hurdle and more of an interesting challenge to overcome. The KISS principle - Keep It Simple, Silly. Use common website design principles in order to keep your website idiot-proof and to not waste a persons time when getting to know your organisation. The main principle of a website should always be: Content Is King. How you allow a user to navigate that content is up to you, but it must be friendly and accessible for most of the people interested in your business.

This is exactly, principle to principle, of what is taught in the "Web Design for Dummies 2024" textbook I'm going through it right now. It's so simple but people should learn Web Design from scratch because they might not know about web design philosophy, target audience attraction, color theory, and metadata/keyword search from HTML data.

As someone who'only just starting on web design, some of these could do with mor information, or a comparison between a site that makes the mistake snd one that doesn’t. Some of these were a bit confusing and I don't really know what they mean. Also, would be interested to know which two mistakes from the previous video you don't stand by anymore.

Agree that a lot of these can be annoying, especially splash pages, weird cursors, slow content loaders and pre-loaders! Awful UX. Some mentioned here though are, I feel, overly fussy and unlikely to annoy most users - sometimes a 'best practice' is just that, and not a mistake if design takes precedence. I appreciate your videos, I just think as with many disciplines sometimes the advice here should be treated less as a rule and more as a guideline. Knowing the 'rules' (which a lot of designers probably don't do, to be fair) before you choose to break them. For example, not aligning text right - why is this a problem, in limited cases (e.g. hero section) if the text then fits better? Is it really that much friction? In other cases we really are just talking about preference, which can also be very context-dependent. What's wrong with styling a slider, if it's still there? Why *must* a contact form be on the home page, rather than a click away? There's also a use-case for items like horizontal button sliders, depending on what kind of info you want to display. It doesn't all need to be laid out flat for the user - sometimes a bit of interactivity, if the user is curious, can feel rewarding. In these cases it's better I think to understand the purpose of using these, rather than arguing whether or not they are mistakes. Disagree on the 'illusion of completeness' - the full-page hero is such a consistent practice now that almost everyone knows there is likely to be further content below the hero. We scroll instinctively, it's our most common interaction. A subtle indicator that more is below may be helpful, but this isn't a deal-breaker.

Agree with most, but I can't get behind clickable phone or email. On desktop it makes no sense for phone numbers to be clickable, but I usually do an isMobile check for Android or iOS or have it be a tel: link on small screens. Mailto is garbage as it'll likely open Outlook or Apple Mail which most people don't use. Just keep it text and people can copy it.

Can you make a basic web layout in Photoshop then recreate them in WordPress using elementor.
@simoncallelaverde18 күн бұрын
Don't call them "rows" bro, just call them SECTIONS. As they are that, and they should even be coded using the semantic HTML tag "<section></section>". For 100% wide sections. Yeah, I also discovered when first coding 9 years ago, that these sections were the base of any page. We used to code "<divs>" within the <main> or so. It is better just to all be "<sections>". Basically, every page should just have a "<header></header>", many "<section></section>(s)", and finally the "<footer></footer>". I still wrap the many "sections" within the "<main></main>" HTML tag which every website should have. Just for semantics, even SEO, and accessibility.

Hmm. So I have a blog on WordPress. I'll have to see what the Gutenber editor allows in the free plan (which means no plugins), but it seems that blogroll and tags may be unacceptable in the footer, as I have it now. I chose against a theme with a sidebar because it eliminates the possibility for wide images, and I don't like how inconsistent it is on mobile where it gets shoved down to the bottom anyway.

What of the point is to put a book or article online? Not to butcher it into something else, but to publish the content for what it is, a text heavy document? Are there ideal widths for columns of text, for example?

Are they going to fix the problem where dragging containers to resize them actually works? I looked at the reddit and can't see any complaints about this so feel like it's just me, or it simply doesn't bother anyone else?? If I set the content width to full width it works fine, but when set to boxed the moment I let go of the drag it just chooses a seemingly random width and snaps to that.

sorry but what is the fucking problem with linking to your website in the footer? If someone likes the website you built and wants to check you out it makes life easier for them to just click the link! That's fucking DUMB on google's behalf for punishing someone for taking credit. There is NO difference between putting 'website by websites Toronto' as text and 'websites by website Toronto' as a link EXCEPT the fact that it is more annoying for users if it is not a link. The only situation someone will give a crap about who built the website is if they are interested, and guess what, wiriting it as text instead of a link is maing their life more annoying by forcing them to search you instead of just clicking a simple link. I've seen LOADS of websites saying 'website powered by ____', and you know what? I've been GREATFUL that has been a link to click because I WANT TO USE THAT SERVICE MYSELF. Fucking dumb. What a bunch of daft c*nts at google. What is the punishment then, for doing this? Great video btw, very helpful, gonna subscribe
