J'aine bien que dans le seigneur des anneaux, l'une des facon dont lelfique deviens une langue un peu etrange est de masculiniser la lune, et de feminiser le soleil! Intéressant d'ailleurs de noter que l'elfique a des sortes de genre,alors qu'il était Anglophone !

Hyper intéressant oui ! Mais l'anglais avait des genre avant. Peut être (sûrement) que Tolkien le savait
@TheoWinter3 күн бұрын
Tolkien avait des ancêtres allemands, donc il a peut-être appris un peu d'allemand en faisant sa généalogie, car en allemand, la lune est masculine et le soleil féminin

Hello Cassy I’ve tried to learn French several times since being given a pathetic grounding in school. Each time, I’ve failed. In between, I’ve tried Norwegian - many years ago - and was nearly fluent: I was fascinated by the culture, and in several visits to Norway I found the people there very welcoming and supportive, even though many speak excellent English. Not so in France… at least, this has been my sad experience, and a visit to Paris decades ago ‘finished me off’: in a moment of panic, I stumbled over my hotel room number, and the receptionist was so rude that I have never recovered. So, I still try, but I’m incredibly hesitant and can’t ever imagine being fluent in French, which is a shame: I’ve dabbled in Latin, Spanish, Italian, too, but if you add up all the vocabulary I know in all other languages, the total is outshone by my knowledge of French! Anyhow, many thanks for the videos - apart from being very informative, you speaking so honestly about your own experiences infuses me with some glimmer of hope, infinitesimally small though that might be! Ian, UK

I hope you won't give up and give French and France another try. I would be so happy if my channel helps you fall in love with French again. And I swear, most French people are not rude! Bonne chance 💪

Thank you. Italian, French and English speakers all drop that first word in the manner of "Y'a" and "Faut faire..." English examples: "Hope you like it, I made it myself", or, "Going somewhere, Fred?" Then there's "Kinda makes sense, doesn't it?", and so on. I imagine other languages do it all the time, too. Our mind starts a sentence and our mouth races to catch up.
@cassyparlefrancais8 күн бұрын
Yes, it's funny to see how different languages can evolve in a similar way. As long as it does not disturb the communication and understanding, why not. But it's difficult to be aware of these things for learners. Though, I think it's important to know in order to be able to speak with natives.

Thank you for this lesson! In English, when one says "kinda," or "sorta," or other slurred words, they are not speaking "Standard English." They are using the vernacular ... but there are some English-speakers here in the States that still say, "kind of" and "sort of," enunciating clearly. "Standard English" is supposed to be taught at school, but my personal and professional observation (I was a public school teacher) is that most teachers do not recognize that they are slurring their words. That's why so many people say and also write, "should OF" instead of "should HAVE," for example. They don't teach standard English because they don't know it. Dialects and jargon are now considered mainstream. The population is diverse, and so different dialects and cant (specialized language) become normalized, especially with TV and Internet spreading the trends. And, people prefer to appear "cool" rather than educated. It's particularly amusing to me, as I would have thought that specialized language (cant) would have been kept for use within the original communities. Now we have Urban Dictionary and online acronym lists to decipher these words, to facilitate public understanding. It's like text abbreviations used by teens to hide meaning from their parents ... but now one can simply consult the internet to learn the meaning.

One of those extra words would be maybe like the "eh" Canadians hang on to question sentences, like for examples "isn't it beautiful here, eh?"
@ACH776 күн бұрын
And like, "Beauty, eh?" I don't know if the use of eh might be dying out a little in Michigan (hope not) but I grew up there and it was part of my everyday speech. 👍

I like that in this video of demonstrating sloppy-but-common French phrasing, that you also use sloppy-but-common English (for example you say, "gunna" rather than "going to" (0:42)).
@phillycatlady12 күн бұрын
I love that too. I’ve always wondered what the French equivalent of those kinds of English tics. An intelligent English speaker often uses them, in casual speech or even for humor, but what would be the French equivalent of “gonna”, or “kinda”, that she used also? I might say “ I ain’t gonna do that” to be funny or for emphasis, knowing full well it is both grammatically wrong and sloppy. What would be the French equivalent?
@jonmcgoey177212 күн бұрын
@@phillycatlady my guess for English equivalents to "ain't" is to check yt videos of Quebec slang. I was told that one reason speakers of "continental French" disparage Quebecoise French is that the continental French has changed ("evolved" in my friends words) while Quebecoise French has remained quite insulated from the rest of the French speaking world. Of course I can't determine the veracity, but I still watch those quebecoise based videos before I travel for bike trips and ski trips into Quebec.
