A window of time we came see in, but they can't see back. I can see why joy division was so appealing. Rawness, power, and charisma. I've paid my respects and did a cover of decades kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJS8iJewoJdsqdEsi=Mx3x0YZn43Lg9dGS have a listen

Watching this, especially Autosuggestion, and I'm struck by how like Jim Morrison Ian was ... arguably not intentionally, but the same shamanic quality. It's amazing

To see one of the greatest musical forces representing Tragedy or Tragic Art, when there is so little footage of them , is a pleasure surpassed only by celestial sexual intercourse and the state of being in acute Love, and as in my culture the latter is so rare that the proportion of the former is both thematically and absolutely sky-rocketed all the further accordingly. Bravo Mr Hyphen, which I conclude is a stage name given your supreme talent at hyphenating these videos to audio so perfectly. We Joy Division fans are a despairing lot and Im not kidding when I say the joy of this footage likely prevented or undid a couple suicides...

Amazing. I have this recording on bootleg vinyl from years ago. That version of Autosuggestion is incredible. With the odd exception, I have always preferred the raw power of the live recordings to the studio versions.

You gotta admire Martin Hannets production though he made the music sound like it came from the future.

Anthropologists, Musicologists, and those just born to eternal libertinage, nihilism, or kulturkampf in 100 years will thank you. This is what all those wanting to know what culture mattered as the world began to ignite will treasure for generations, every girl ostracized by her friends for being too wild, every boy instantly rejected for being too honest, this was and is their music. 1980-2080, et al. " SAY YOU TRI----ED. SAYYYYY YOU "

Got to see them in Leeds in 1979. They were fantastic and I was memorised as a 15 year old kid. Strikes me now that they add the space of reggae/dub with the sparkiness of the new wave movement at the time (Banshees, Cure, Slits) but with a William Burroughs darkness that hasn't been repeated.

A lot of Joy Division's best songs were where Hook and Sumner swapped guitar and bass. God, I just remembered the video recording of this from the 1980s - it was pretty much inaudible...
