Got to see them in Leeds in 1979. They were fantastic and I was memorised as a 15 year old kid. Strikes me now that they add the space of reggae/dub with the sparkiness of the new wave movement at the time (Banshees, Cure, Slits) but with a William Burroughs darkness that hasn't been repeated.

Ian Curtis wore his heart on his sleeve like no other musician ever will and what's more Joy Division as a whole created a stunning sound that was the very essence of Ian Curtis - they (the band) gave us Ian's soul; the music inspires me, can bring me to tears, or can calm my troubles. Ian's legacy is that you probably either love or hate the group - I daresay Ian wanted people to understand him, if you love Joy Division you probably do - he gave us all he had, long may his memory continue, and to help those in need.

I'm either listening to Bob Dylan, or this. I dare say Joy Division is the best live band ever. The more I've learned about them the harder it is to understand how they even managed to create this band. It's really nuts. They seen the Sex Pistols once and this is what happened. You could never do that today, Everything is so different.

This is something that blows my mind all the time, but also only since recently. I only discovered them like one and a half years ago but the better i know them the more im just amazed that these 4 young men found each other and created this kind of music together in the span of a couple years. absolutely unbelievable

Its not different. It's just most of the bands that are functioning like that are usually obscure. Probably in 10 years when the current gen is dead or broken up, people will be saying the same "Could never do that today...."

Amazing. I have this recording on bootleg vinyl from years ago. That version of Autosuggestion is incredible. With the odd exception, I have always preferred the raw power of the live recordings to the studio versions.

God damn joy division is amazing. The band is so tight, and Ian is just weird and odd to make it all so good. His awkward dancing compliments his interesting delivery of lyrics. I can’t get enough of them. I just wish there was more live stuff out there.
