how come it’s so hard to find the penn fathom size 15 in left handed version ?
@RSGOutdoors3 күн бұрын
Pretty sure it's because they stopped making the level wind fathom 15 in left hand all together.

I have 25NSD in Squall, and in Fathom. The squall just sits unused. There really is no comparison when you use them both on big, tough fish like tuna or big sharks. You will be happier with the better version.
@RSGOutdoors5 ай бұрын
I would agree, the fathom is a better saltwater choice, but the squall will fair just fine if that's what fits your price range better.

Does the fathom have a 2 speed button
@RSGOutdoors5 ай бұрын
No, the fathom does not come in a 2 speed reel. Penn makes a couple 2 speed reels though.

Very good break down and review. I've always used Abu 6500 Pro Rockets, but I've been thinking about trying some squalls. i appreciate that you took the time to tear em down and show the internals. Good job, i love that the Pro Rockets have true floating spools with for bearings, but the Penn seem like tanks when i have used them.
@RSGOutdoors6 ай бұрын
The Squalls and Fathoms are both solid reels. I've got a few Abus as well, and I feel like they cast farther, but for sheer winching power in a reel, a Penn is hard to beat.
@cihangirguler77147 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for the nice and simple explanation. What are the sizes of the reels?

I fish barbless hooks- smashing the barbs with pliers. They’re easier to remove from the catfish, as well as the incidental turtle. The problem is that the bait falls off easily. I cut roughly 3/16 to 1/4 inch wide rubber bands into equal length to width pieces with scissors and keep them in a ziplock baggie. After baiting, I pierce the square piece onto the hook and slide it to mid-bend. I can get several rebaiitings per piece. I don’t think that I really lose anymore fish compared to when I left the barbs on the hooks.

I've seen something similar done with small pieces of rubber tubing. Awesome idea.

The problem that I have with this is that I did this to my c4 6601 reel which is the same as the 6600 but is left handed. Once you upgrade to this power handle it will eventually wobble on the reel after about an hour of fishing, even if you upgrade the screw to a hex screw as I saw in another video. I love this reel but getting a power handle for it is a pain in the butt.
@RSGOutdoors11 ай бұрын
I have a few of these with upgraded power handles, have been using them for about 3 years, no wobble.
@CL_G11 ай бұрын
@@RSGOutdoors I just went on eBay to get the Abu handle that has a bent curve at the end. Those are hard to get. I paid close to $50 for it. If that doesn't work then I'll put the original handle back on.

Fathoms are way better at casting longer distance than the squalls in my opinion
@RSGOutdoors11 ай бұрын
Fathoms have an extra bearing where a Squall has a bushing. Lends to a little smoother cast with slightly more distance.

You could put the screw eye directly into the steel rod and save the cost of the dowel, tubing and contact cement.
@RSGOutdoors Жыл бұрын
The tubing and dowel give a small amount of floatation to the front end of the weight making it easier to drag through grass, rocks, etc.

I'd just like to add that the squalls don't have a backup anti reverse dogleg whereas the fathoms have both an anti reverse bearing and dog leg anti reverse in case the anti reverse bearing fails

Which one would you recommend for bottom fishing for haddock, cod and pollock? About 2-300 ft.
@RSGOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Either one will work just fine for those species. I'd get a size 30 though for the extra capacity since you may be fishing pretty deep.
@abdul-hadidadkhah14592 жыл бұрын
The 20lw has plenty of line capacity and a better gear ratio for working sidewinders on the wrecks. 30lw are more suited for conger, ling and bigger fish. Try and pay a little more and get a line counter version.
