If you launch NX and go into the on-line docs you can search for "Getting Started with NX Open". You will see a really nice PDF to get you started. I have pointed lots of people to it, and they are able to become proficient quickly. It is way better than a KZbin video.

Hello Taylor, again a very usefull video! Can I ask a question that is a bit off topic here? I have made a PTS part with 2 varables, for example width and heigth. In this example the width can be a range of values, and the heigth has a list of choises, but is depending on the assembly it is put in. When adding this PTS part multiple times to an assembly (clone) it wouls be very intresting if the heigth value can automatically be controlled bij an expression in the assembly. Is this possible without connecting the heigth value to the expression for every PTS part manually? In other words, I want to automatically 'pull' the expression value from an assembly to a PTS part.

I got two further questions for you. 1) I noticed, that I cannot use all Attributes and Expressions of the Part Family to refine the selection. What are the restriction on that? 2) I it possible to reuse other product templates, where I can fill the dialog values based on expressions?

@taylorandersonnxvideos
@taylorandersonnxvideos 3 ай бұрын
I think you're asking about the Pattern Circle Diameter? In newer versions of NX (starting with NX 2406) you could directly measure the pattern circle diameter using three points. In older versions, creating a circle using three points first, and then measuring the circle would likely be the fastest way. Does that help?

Thanks for this! How do you associate these to requirements that you create in Teamcenter?
@taylorandersonnxvideos
@taylorandersonnxvideos 3 ай бұрын
On the Teamcenter side, you'll first link the Requirements to the NX Item Revision. With this link in place, NX will find the Requirements when you open the part in NX, and automatically display them in the Requirements Validation tool in NX. You can then create the checkers in NX that relate the specific measurement expression to the requirement. Does that make sense?

Is it possible to block the OK and the Apply buttons when test==false, so the user can't create the part when some parameter is wrong?

Great question! Most of the parameter entry widgets have the ability to add limits (upper and/or lower) to each input. Hello! Taylor Anderson !What is the quality expression of the part? What can I do to change the size of the part with manually entered mass values?
@taylorandersonnxvideos
@taylorandersonnxvideos 4 ай бұрын
@hualiang178 -- Great question. The mass of the body is generally an *output* from a body, rather than an input, so getting from a mass input to an appropriate "size" is going to either involve: 1) a quick expression calculation (if the shape is canonical and we can easily invert the volume equation) 2) a set of pre-determined known values (like the first half of this video), or 3) an iterative approach to "finding" the right size that produces the desired mass. For this non-canonical shape, I used the third method in the second half of this video. As described, starting at about 1:55 in the video, I have a small optimization (Goal Seek, really) iterating on a size parameter to find the size that produces the desired mass. The "how to" details are in the last third of this video. Does that make sense?

In the "Actions" group on the Parameter Tables dialog, you can use the "New Table from File" option to start a new table using an Excel spreadsheet or CSV file. The easiest way to understand the required format is to manually create a small Parameter Table and export it. (MB3 on the name of the Parameter Table after you've created it, and choose "Export".) In this example, it is possible to have a single replaceable component that can be mounted to a different slot depending on the component selection made on the product template. (i.e. if component_1 is selected it gets mounted to slot A, if component_2 it goes to slot B). I could use suppression by expression, but i was wondering if i could use visual rules instead for a cleaner execution.
@taylorandersonnxvideos
@taylorandersonnxvideos 3 ай бұрын
Interesting question! We don't have the ability to directly specify alternate assembly constraints, but if the different mounting positions were spaced along a similar direction, you could certainly have one of the assembly constraints be a Distance constraint that could vary based on the selected component (and thus in your example, modify the position the swapped component into slot A or B based on a different distance value.) I suppose this could work for angular constraints as well, now that I think about it. Again, thanks for an interesting question!

You may be looking at the Pattern Feature dialog in the "Less" state. Look for a tiny arrow pointing downward at the bottom center of the dialog, just above the OK, APPLY, and CANCEL buttons. This should expand the dialog downward and reveal some extra options for you. Alternately, the "gear" icon in the upper left corner of the dialog should similarly have a "Pattern Feature (More)" option that will similarly reveal more options. Does that help?

Great question. Looks like that would be a two-step process today... You could measure the Center of Mass and create a point (either associatively or non-associatively) and then you could measure the location of the point with respect to the new CSYS. Does that make sense? (And yes, this sounds like a great Enhancement Request, if you'd like to submit it.) 🙂

Our current workflow is we open a reference part and "save-as" to create the new part, and then modify expressions and adjust 2D if necessary (eg adding rev note). @taylorandersonnxvideos
@taylorandersonnxvideos 3 ай бұрын
We would recommend using "Replace Feature" in this case. This should maintain associativity with any downstream features, and provide the replacement mapping tool if there are geometric changes between the different Feature Templates. Additionally, Teamcenter can help you identify all of the parts in which you've used a particular Feature Template (or UDF) in case you want to go back and revisit them. Does that help?

@taylorandersonnxvideos
@taylorandersonnxvideos 3 ай бұрын
Algorithmic Modeling features will always create new bodies -- they will not consume the previous input bodies. So in cases like this where the Algorithmic Modeling feature uses the original part solid as an input, you'll see that original body remain as construction geometry. You can either just remove this body from the MODEL reference set (which will remove any duplicate mass from the part), or use the "Delete Body" feature if you really don't want the body around anymore at all. Does this help?
