My house was not affected but half of my friends houses were flooded and it was so hard to drive through the town i grew up in and the devastation caused to my neibors and friends. Everyone worked together to rebuild and kept our hopes up. Nasheville is once again the great city it was before. We will all remember wat happened those days and that will keep us strong. WE ARE NASHVILLE

It's interesting. I live just an hour and a half away, and we only got a slight storm. I guess living up the mountain counts for something. Hate to see fellow Tennesseeans in trouble like that. Best wishes to everybody!!

God bless the good people of Nashville. THIS story deserves a national piece on 60 Minutes or Oprah Winfrey. The incredible devastation and the fact that you've taken care of it on your own is a testament to the character of Music City. Keep on keeping on. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

@imatelly It was nearly 48 hours of torrential rains/flash flooding that caused it.. so kinda both.

@lauradoestheastro Yeah, I was staying up late and was watching Channel 5 weather the early morning hours of May 1st. We were having 'afternoon' storms in the middle of the night, because the temperatures were in the upper 70's. It didn't help that almost all day May 1st AND May 2nd there were torrential rains.

I live about 5 minutes from downtown, and I am student. The flood happened the day before we had state tests, and we got out of school for a week. we only had about 4 inches in our basement, so we were considered lucky. I have classmates who lost everything. The week we were out of school, my school, Glencliff High, went out and helped tremendously. It was amazing at how much the flood affected EVERYONE I know. It's hard to see the city i call home be damaged so severely.

The true spirit of hard working Americans NOT expecting a handout. Many got burnt by their insurance companies because they were "NOT IN A FLOOD ZONE" God bless all You in Nashville!!!! Wish others could learn from your example of being "Brushed under the rug" yet, taking care of business, and moving on. Glad Knoxville was able to help some. Thoughts with you all.

@rugg64039 LOL.....HAARP bothers me, but I don't think this one was its fault. So many were swamped on the expressway because of traffic backing up due to flooding ahead, extreme rain, etc... When the rivers, lakes, and creeks finally overcame their banks, everything surrounding was flash-flooded. It was very sobering and surreal.

@patbahn ummm....okay? Somebody's missing the point here. Try to keep up Pat; okay buddy? We all appreciate the help from our troops; I too am in the service. There is no harm in taking pride in the closeness of our community and that's what we're doing here. Grab a little salsa for that chip on your shoulder and lets get back to the video.

I was in Nashville with a tour of 51 Irish people from Philadelphia. We were trying to go to Memphis on Sunday and got stranded in Kingston Springs. The very fine folks there treated us with gracious hospitality, giving us sandwiches and water from Quizznos and letting us hold a ceilidh (Irish Party) in the parking lot of the gas station we were parked at. We will be holding a benefit for the town at our local Irish Center to help raise some money to rebuild. God bless you all!

True American Spirit. This is how we used to handle things before it got profitable to whine and cry. Our company has a branch up there that was shut down for days. As SOON as they could get to work, they did. How many people do you Really know with as much heart as these good folk?

I have a friend, who has a sister, that lost everything she had. She now has another place to live and is getting on with life but is now suffering health problems due to the flooding. The flood waters were a chemical stew, and that exposure has now put her in the emergency room several times since the flooding.

What a disaster! News of the flooding was all over the local, national and even entertainment news in Peoria IL so I'm not sure where the 15 minute thing comes in. The Nashville area along with so much of TN is just beautiful. This flood is a tragedy and frightening in its destructive effects. Weird, violent, extreme weather destroyed so much but I'm hoping that healing and recovery can soothe broken hearts and homes.

Most of this actually happened in one day, May 2nd. I live outside of Nashville but I was there that weekend for a convention. On May 1 it was like any other storm, some flood warnings, a tornado watch or two--all perfectly normal. On the 2nd my mom and I got up to go to church and then I was going to return to the convention... we never made it to either. We did, thankfully, make it out of Nashville relatively unscathed.
