Summer of 79 I lived around the corner from this yard. I used to go down and have a mosey around. There were no fences. One evening a train crew invited me on a return trip to Stranraer aboard their class 26? But they weren't sure what time they were coming back so I had to refuse. Idiot idiot idiot

Blue train probably not Cathcart / Neilston as they were all 2x headcodes according to my '63/64 timetable which unfortunately only gives codes for the then electric services, Lanark was diesel and Gourock / Weymess Bay steam at that time. Maybe Lanark as Gourock seems to have been 5x from what I can find. Unless of course they changed the codes by the 70s!
@OOElectronics5 күн бұрын
I guessed Cathcart etc. as I thought by 1976 it was electric and it wouldn't be the Inverclyde as the train was so close to platform 1. I agree Inverclyde was steam in the mid 60s as I recall travelling DMU from Irvine to Paisley and transferring to steam to Wemyss Bay to sail to Hunter's Quay. Not sure when Inverclyde went electric, I recall the Ayr line was still diesel to at least summer 1980 as I sued it daily (and regularly got delayed due unreliable rolling stock!).

@@OOElectronics I was wondering how you would get those locos out other than the hand of God. So you have a series of toggles where those locos are ?
@OOElectronics2 ай бұрын
@@charlie1872 The control panels I made a few years ago have rotary switches and LEDs to indicate isolated sections and enable them; since then, I've introduced many more but no space on the panel for more switches so I was able to put in more LEDs to show the new sections but used bistable relays to make sure that sections paralleled with other sections only work when the points are set to that line. In the case of the turntable, the end sections only become live if the head-shunt on the live side of the turntable is set. It's a bit convoluted but it works. Bistable relays in parallel with points motor coils are very useful for solving all sorts of issues even just as simple as the contacts on the points failing. It is far simpler to install a bistable relays than to change out the point (and much cheaper...)

My present layout dates back to 1989 or thereby and some of the track isn't the best for level and gauge so additional pickups do help a lot. PWM control makes a huge difference assuming you are staying with DC.
