I resonate with what you speak. I hadn’t heard of this term before, and I’ve been sensing this discomfort of sorts to understand what this reality is and why we’re here? I feel the collective and am helplessly a part of it.. Growing up in a Jain community, I’ve constantly heard the it’s the end of the 5th aara as we call it, moving to the 6th, which is the time of destruction, of every kind.. and then the 1st phase will rise again, and in earth years they are vey long periods. It is believed and written in the Jain texts that this cycle has repeated 84 times.

As Iain well knows it is easy, all too easy to reify the concept of the left hemisphere and right hemisphere. One single statement that can possibly help us not to fall into that mental trap is: The left hemisphere alone does not know its limitations and equally well the right hemisphere alone doesn't know its limitations. This statement is a skillful means to help us return to the state of creative imagination in its "not knowingness" or incipient wonder prior to our forming this or that or any concept. Speaking metaphysically, we might say the one divides into two in order to enrich the unity. The challenge is to speak of division without losing the sense of wholeness or sense of unity. We could say it is from this unbounded sense of unity that a deeper or more integrated unity can come to be. We don't ordinarily have a sense of presence that can give us a perspective from which we can see how the mind is working. As we develop this sense of presence, we can notice when we do get entangled with the mind's limitations and at that point we can cease continuing in that fixed pattern of thinking. There can be seen to be much wisdom in the Zen saying that "form is emptiness and emptiness is form". In other words concepts are empty (like wonder or the fertile darkness is empty prior to the limited light of concepts that come and blind us to incorporating the sense wonder) and emptiness (like wonder or fertile darkness) is capable of taking on form. Such statements are clues to how what we call "mind" works.......Thank you for this podcast.

1:35:00 ff I’ve been waiting 60 years for Philip Goyal’s reminder of the true nature of ‘the measurement problem’…. THANK YOU !!…. Yes. ‘Measuring’ anything not only changes that which is measured but it also changes the measuring instrument. And different measuring instruments change that which they measure in different ways, & are likewise differently changed themselves. Sooooo yes, choosing a specific type of measuring device quite absolutely alters the alterations which occur during the measurement of anything. Soooooo yes ‘our’ choices of measuring instrument do quite absolutely affect the metrics of the body being measured …… AND US. Put a glass & mercury thermometer right into the body of the water of the Pacific Ocean to measure its temperature &, ineluctably, the temperature of the ocean will be changed thereby…….. albeit by an amount so minuscule as to be almost totally irrelevant. Moreover, the thermal activity of the water molecules in the Pacific Ocean will also just as ineluctably change the temperature (the thermal activity) of the molecules of the thermometer while it’s in the water. Infrared (IR) sensors detect objects by emitting infrared radiation and measuring how it reflects or is absorbed. Using an ear thermometer, also known as tympanic thermometer, which uses infrared light to measure temperature by detecting the thermal radiation emitted from the measured object to measure the (infrared) temperature of the object under study, & as such is not thrust right into the molecular mass of the object it is measuring, nevertheless will just as ineluctably change the temperature of the Pacific Ocean if used to measure the latter’s (infrared) temperature, including just as many ‘back changes’ to the infrared thermometer also. The Roomba cleaning your floors probably has infrared detectors ….. Same, same with every measurement taken - indeed, as we ourselves move through the world & make decisions concerning the nature of our movements, we change everything we touch ….. both ourselves & the world ….. ineluctably….. It is not required to drill all the way down to the so-called quantum level in order to recognise that measuring things changes them …. & us ….

Im not understanding how theyre coming to the conclusion, based on their own logic, that beauty must be intrinsic, not subjective, more a way of seeing and relating to the world than an intrinsic quality of certain things, beauty can literally be found in everything in certain frames of mind, our definition of beauty shifts and evolves... with where our attention and values go.

Mary Whitehouse was deeply concerned about the tv and its impact on innocent minds.. and she was absolutely right.. many parents didn't understand the power tv would have over the children.. books had power, and so did music.. and many children who were not taught to be mindful of the danger of tv have sadly killed themselves and others.. because they do not understand what the world is... they need to understand the laws that govern nature and govern us all.. howeverif it can influence people in negative ways, it has the power to heal the masses rather quickly.

I get it that you're intuiting something and you're confused. I like the limitation of not going too narcissistic and thus avoiding psychosis. My concern is your presentation suggests the possibility of doing some thing deliberately, by conscious intention. If we stay with the Jungian notion of individuation, whether individually or collectively, keep in mind that to call it a crisis, meta or not, is to arrogate to the ego that which is the domain of the Self. Go with the flow, as per Lao Tzu, and let the water of the inner being, not the jack hammer of conscious intention, wear away stone.

None of these videos are helpful at all. Y’all don’t realize how down bad people are in the real world. Iain was telling us to listen to our intuitions and my deepest one is that Life is The Mistake. Your videos are useless because they don’t give any real answers. Why are we in this pickle in the first place? What was the whole point of Creation? Who cares about Beauty Truth and Goodness when you’re desperately trying to find food or water? My biggest intuition is that Life is supremely arbitrary. None of you can honestly tell me that this claim is just “stupid” or “immature” because I guarantee all of you wish that life didn’t kick you in the teeth so hard. I wish you all would stop denying that y’all have the same question as me, But why?

Can anyone of you academic folk tell me why ,not being born is somehow worse than being born? I just heard iain say that all bad things happens from a motivation to improve something. Why try to “improve” or be “creative” when the Universe could have just rested in its own glory

Y’all piss me the fuck off talking this fucking nonsense and have the damn nerve to act like there’s something wrong with me for having this disposition. Y’all act like this “oh the masses are too unsophisticated to realize that Reality is great, why can’t they just submit to the torture”

You stupid fucks, it’s not fucking hubris. WE LIVE IN A WORD OF PAIN AND WE WANT IT TO STOP. WHY WOULD I NOT WANT TO CEASE SUFFERING. ANSWER THIS!! THIS NATURAL WORLD IS FUCKING EVIL. BECAUSE EROS WANTED TO BE “CREATIVE” SOMEONE IS STARVING TO DEATH RIGHT NOW. There stomach is touching there fucking back and waves of pain flood him as he prays to anything to take the pain away. What if Eros just fucking didn’t do that. We need to seek to cease the activities of Eros. This Reality shit is fucking maniacally absurd

Bonnita asked “where is that pain that keeps us from wanting to be in the natural world coming from?” Are you deadass? Some kids come out the womb and get painful cancer and suffer and die while there parents look at it. WHY THE FUCK DO YOU THINK THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO BE? I’m genuinely confused why you and iain and all these other folks can’t see/understand that Life is literally torture. Y’all can enjoy being tortured all you want and tell everyone how “beautiful” it is because y’all are either insane or very good at denial. If I had a red button that would delete all Life and all experience I would press it IMMEDIATELY. We all deserve to rest in the peacefulness of deep sleep and non-existence. If y’all don’t want that then fine but can y’all do a fucking episode that actually helps the situation for once instead of telling people “Getting hunted and ripped apart by a lion is a beautiful thing” what the actual fuck is wrong with y’all seriously.

And value, what helps you to survive is good, valuable, and what hinders your ability is bad, evil. Assigning value is helpful evolutionary tool that a creature use to choose between alternatives.

I disagree, that beauty and value couldn’t be a result of evolution. feeling beauty and ability to find beauty in everything around you helps survival, it’s a reward for doing hard work of staying alive, so evolution favoured it. And it’s an act of creation on the part of animals to see the beauty.
