Brilliant idea regarding the filter, adding the brass connections. We do plan on doing a similar thing when we get our van next year, so thanks for the tip regarding brass. As for the stone protection, we plan on sticking to sealed roads, but this is Australia, so there's likely to be road works for the last (and next) 6 months on some sections of highway, throwing you on poorly, or unsealed roads for anything up to a few km at a time. It only takes one rock in the wrong place to crack a water pipe, smack an electrical cable, or even hit the handle of a tank drain, leaving you with big issues. Simple split conduit protection of electrical cables, split foam insulation on water pipes, mudflaps at the front of the van, and strategic underbody stone guards made from shade cloth can cost just a few hundred dollars in total, but extend the life of the exposed parts massively, and thus give you a higher chance of a problem-free holiday. I do like your idea of metal valves as well. Oh and you earned a new subscriber too - thanks for the video

Hi Richard, ice just warched your video and im doing the same thing, just curious. Can the fridge pull amps from the battery given its off the Y piece anderson? Cheers Michael
@Richard-Tanya5 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for commenting/watching, The fridge cannot pull amps from the caravan battery as the Y lead goes straight to my Victron 100/50 DC DC charger and there is no voltage on the input side until it is plugged into the car, however you do need to disconnect the anderson from the car when parking up for any overnight or extended stops as it will pull current from your car battery if left connected :)

Do you think it will draw enough air around the front? There is not much air gap for it to pull air, and the fans will prevent air coming in from outside.
@Richard-Tanya2 ай бұрын
it does actually draw quite well, you can actually feel the air being pushed out from outside the van, i did use a smoking candle to check if air was being drawn around the front and it was. I guess time will tell, can't be any worse than the standard Swift microwave which overheated and broke down when it was used on a warm 38-degree day. I was dubious to start with but after checking the temperatures around it using the convection oven and microwave, I'm much more confident now. Thanks for the comment :)

@Richard-Tanya6 ай бұрын
Well the quality of the product is great, no problems with it at all (other than the cheap and frankly poor quality fixing to the van which ive rectified with bits from Bunnings). We dont use it unless we are going away by ourselves for a reasonable length of time with the dogs, we just use our standard fold out metal dog fence, as its easier to make it work for us and still be social with friends, also we've found if the van is not on fairly level ground the skirt can allow one of our dogs to get out under the van (she is a bit of an escape artist) but having a dedicated skirt made would solve this, or just ensuring the site is reasonably level (its only happened once and the site was really quite bad, had the jockey wheel right down to get the van level). So to sum it up, its not cheap, quality is great for the actual fence, the skirt and fittings to the van are not fantastic and need to be improved upon, make sure its right for you before you buy as it can be quite restrictive when camping with groups.
@foxyl8e8486 ай бұрын
@Richard-Tanya thank you for your reply. Interested to know what you used instead of included fixings. Was that for fence or skirt? I have skirt that I will continue to use no worries there... was it using gate that made it restricting or ?? Did you get the time down inflating etc?
@Richard-Tanya6 ай бұрын
@@foxyl8e848 We got some stainless d loops from Bunnings Taskmaster 5mm 316 Stainless Steel Square Eye Plate and used carabiners to connect to them to allow the green stakes to go through and hold the fence to the van. We like to have a camp fire of an evening and it meant that we would have to lock the dogs inside the fence whilst we sat outside, thats why we often just take the metal fence with us, yes we can put it up really quick and deflate quick now :)

I have a Aus Caravan here in NZ with a BMPRO 35 HA . I have 2x roof solar but need more Power so , I connected a portable solar panel to my Aux plug ,Both unregulated and regulated and it did NOT show up on the Trek display. ( In Aux as per the Tow Vehicle ), was told by BMPRO agent ,here not to do that , its a real pain to access the BMPRO in Caravan and run wires out of sight ( its installed in overhead cabinets ) , its disappointing the Van manufactures don,t run a conduit pipe so extra wires can be run , if i can,t get to it ? , i will go straight to batteries with a regulated panel via a Anderson plug set up , i wont use a BMPRO 300 shunt ,as they cost a arm and Leg over here NZ $650
@Richard-Tanya6 ай бұрын
Yes, I agree, the caravan manufacturers do not build the vans to be future proof at all, to be honest im not a fan of the BM Pro system anyway and have now upgraded my system, I still use the bm pro to check my water levels and control my lighting and as a 240 volt charger, but all my solar needs are now taken care of via Victron, luckily Franklin ran 12mm cable to my solar panel which meant I didnt need to run extra wires :)

@Richard-Tanya9 ай бұрын
I think its more a case of correct practice, if you separate the loads that way you are always drawing across both batteries, helps keep the SOC even across both batteries. Thanks for your support :)
