Filled a mid size shop vac half way with water. Had to remove entire carpet. Had vinyl mats and didn't notice that the entire floor pad was saturated. Going to check this today. Thanks so much for the info and yes, I'm going to use red since that's right behind a heat shield.

you can wrap the wire around the sensor in the same direction as your loosening so IF any issues arise you can replug and reuse if needed. also the rubber kinda helps with grip

I've been having an inordinate amount of "condensation" inside my Dakota. Mostly on the windshield. I went to a Dakota forum and all I could find was a pissing match over everything but the actual cause. Your solution appears to make a helluva lot more sense than anything else I've been able to find thus far. Thank you.

Nope just one on the passenger side. Are you in a wet/rainy area? You could have a window seal leak.

@@socalbeer6212 no it gets wet on dry days and my AC is draining properly so I know that’s not clogged So I don’t know where this water is coming from
@socalbeer6212 Жыл бұрын
You should try and pull back the floor padding and see if you can trace the wetness. I would start on the passenger side and see if it is somehow being absorbed and pulled to the driver side through the padding.

The Durango and Dakota had similar layouts to the engine bay and suspension. I would think it would be in the same place. The metal shield would be the first thing I would look for.

@socalbeer62122 жыл бұрын
Sorry, not sure what you are trying to say here. You don't want to "seal up" the drain hose itself, that will cause a huge water problem in the interior. You just want to put the sealant underneath it to seal the gap in the firewall

BIG QUESTION [email protected] 2002 Dodge Dakota AC chokes passenger side floorboard however, was your AC also freezing up during this problem? I don't know if I have a double problem or not?
@socalbeer62122 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by freezing up? Only issues I have had are the water in floorboard and the blower motor continuously going out. Which is a completely separate issue that I wish I had videoed the fix on.

@@socalbeer6212 I replaced the pressure line with the oil fixed valve in it and the accumulator vacuumed it down and recharged it and it was cold as ice but had water in the floorboard. Looked up about fixing that problem and it explained about the tube, taking the passenger side tire off and the fender well extending the tube by way of a radiator clamp small one but winter was coming on didn't need the air and didn't get that far. So now that summer has yet I turned it on and the line from the evaporator to the condenser that has the oil fix tube in it built in unfortunately is freezing up! So I was just wondering if me unclogging that tube and extending it would be the answer of why it's freezing up now? Thanks

So I "barrowed" a lift in one of the stalls at my favorite shop where I have had more than a few repairs as well as maintenance done over the years. After paying a local body shop to "look" for this leak a couple years back, thinking this had to be condensation created by the location of the catalytic converter which caused what seemed to be a basketball sized wet spot under my floor mat in the carpet. No trail of wetness to show that the source was that drain tube?! That was explained by the rubber strip across the floor panel of the firewall. Removed the "tin/aluminum path plate" as you did & filled the area on the "large cell" foam gasket around the drain tube. Apparently, fairly early on, the large cell foam "gasket" is more compressed so no initial leak, but after a bit of jostling (driving) the "compression" releases and the wicking at the straight tube (design flaw from inception) where a lot of condensation drains is pushed toward the firewall & the poor choice of a "gasket" the manufacturer chose. The fix is just as you suggested, blob a considerable amount of high temp RTV around entire tube with as much excess as possible directed to the sides & bottom of this "gasket". Lift carpet up for a day or two, I used 3 towels to soak up residual water & short 2x4's to hold carpet up allowing all the wetness to dry out testing as I drove for almost a week with A/C on, checking for any more water, smelling RTV for a few days. Once satisfied the leak was assuaged the carpet was returned to it original position, dry & no more leak! Dodge should have recalled all vehicles affected! I have owned this 2002 Dakota SLT Crew Cab for the last 14 years, paid to "find" this "leak", told about the "drain hole blockage" when they never found it, (likely never looked). It took me all of about 45 minutes to "fix" (and a fifth of Bourbon to the shop owner for use of one of his racks) & viola! Now moving on to soundproofing the entire cab & custom interior design! Thanks again for your post, helped me & apparently more than a few here too!

The drain shouldnt clog, unless something has deteriorated inside your AC. Also, the only way to unclog would be to go through this whole process, so might as well do the fix too.

I had the same issue in my 04 Dakota. I did use red RTV instead of the blue, because of the heat. I also inserted a smaller hose into the existing outlet with an elbow pointing down. Doesn’t hurt to have extra protection from this happening again. Thank you for the video.

the moisture you are seeing is condensation from the a.c. could this also be caused by a heater core antifreeze leak?

@socalbeer62125 жыл бұрын
If your passenger floor isn't wet after using your AC for a hour or so, then the roof issue isn't due to that. High humidity and age can cause the lining to sag.
