As a Duke fan who just happened to stumble across this video , I don’t think you guys understand how mid the ACC currently is. Like yeah yeah yeah most national championships most ncaa tournament wins whatever, the conference is legitimately very bad right now. SMU can very easily wind up top five in the acc and I wouldn’t put it past them to make a top 3-4 finish. From what I’ve watched of this SMU team, only being around 10ish in the ACC would be underperforming because outside of Duke, Clemson, Louisville, and UNC I don’t see anyone whose undebatably better than SMU right now.

I just want to make one point. The TD scored by SMU was against PSUs subs. I like SMU and they have a good team but it was defensive pressure that hurt SMU the most. The cold and wind hurt both teams passing games. It wasn't a good day for either QB and both are very good QBs.
@dfdlaАй бұрын
Whoa. 4 bad plays? SMU 24-17? 80 yards difference? PSU played the last 10 minutes with a backup QB. PSU built a huge lead and took its foot off the gas to get depth players some action. Other than that, I'm glad the people of PA made your experience enjoyable.

If the score was closer, do you think they would have put their backups on offense and defense for you to score? They would have kept Allen and Singleton in. One reason why the yardage was so close was Penn State's offense did not have to come out on the pick 6s. The defense came out again after those scores. That's 2 more offensive series than PSU. SMU scored 3 pts on the PSU 1st team defense.

I get what you're trying to say with well if this didn't happen and SMU scores and then, and that changes this.. For starters. Those plays happened because Penn State forced it. The two pick 6s happened because PSU destroyed SMU up front. they got pressure and forced bad throws. You missed an FG. Because PSU forced you back when it 1st and goal. SMU made some plays (because they're a good team), and PSU countered. And let's not forget. PSU put their back ups in at the start of the 4th. It could have been a lot worse. PSU manhandle SMU. Period. And I hate when fans play what if. PSU was converting like 47% of their 3rd down plays. To SMU, who was at like 12%. PSU average 5.0 yards a play to SMU 3.4 yards a play. SMU running back average like 3.2 ypc. Penn State had two backs who had 6.4 ypc. PSU controlled the trenches on both sides. Again again. They had back ups in for 20% of the game.They were head and shoulders better. I won't say SMU doesn't belong. I think they should have been in over Bama or any SEC school. But this game was an ass kicking. Period. Anyway, I'm glad your time here. Whiteout are magically. Shame this one was a noon game and so cold. It was a bit underwelming. But fun none the less. As someone who lived in FL and AZ. I know how cold it can be when your body isn't use to it. So hopefully you weren't to miserable ha. Enjoy next season
@BenDeLeon915Ай бұрын
Disagree on some points. The first missed TD was an unforced error. The second pick 6 was a completely unforced error. No one in the vicinity, QB has to throw it away. If SMU goes up 7-0 early a lot changes. PSU couldn’t move the ball in the beginning but we spotted them 14 points which made it a lot easier for them to call plays and a lot harder for us
@BenDeLeon915Ай бұрын
But of course we agree your DL against our OL was a mismatch. But we have ways to scheme out of that that went away once we were down 14 and 21 because we had to pass which made it easier for them DL to pin their ears back and rush
@Thomas-p9jАй бұрын
SMU is not ready for prime time, yet; but putting things into perspective, they have only been a Power 4 team for a short time. They have a great coach, and they have some deep-pocketed donors that are willing to spend a lot of money to get them to the top, so sooner or later, I suspect they will be ready for prime time.

@garypacharis9326Ай бұрын
Let me start by saying SMU had an amazing first season in the ACC. I loved that you made the trip to State College, it is no easy trip, I live a few miles from Taylor Swift childhood home. SMU had an all most impossible task beating Penn State at home in frigid conditions with a white out atmosphere. I saw a stat where Penn State O line averaged 30 pounds heaver than every other O line you faced with the exception of Clemson. Penn State's running backs both go 230ish pounds, your running back looked to go about 185. In a cold weather game that usually not going to get it done. SMU has a lot to be proud. stay the path forward, and maybe our paths will cross again in the future.
@heartbreak25Ай бұрын
Penn Stater here, I'm happy you had fun in Happy Valley! I just think SMU was overwhelmed by the moment and the environment. NFL professionals struggle with weather changes and road games. That's a lot to put on 20 year olds. Our media is doing the film analysis and basically PSU changed our offensive strategy in the 2nd quarter. Once they realized SMU's offense wasn't going to be much of a threat, the offense simply got conservative and played not to lose. Fans and media may hate it because PSU doesn't win with style points. But PSU is 32-1 in all games they're favored since 2022 so our way works. The 1 loss was when we had 8 starters who opted out of the bowl game last year that weren't fully disclosed. Good luck next season!

@heartbreak25Ай бұрын
I'm a PSU fan. I don't think he was saying SMU was better. There was an actual ESPN analytics stat that showed SMU's odds of winning dropped significantly on 4 different plays. So if they only had a 40% chance of winning, it was reduced down to 4% by the last of those 4 plays. That's the difference between a chance and no chance. It's no different than saying the biggest games for PSU to reach the playoffs were USC and Minnesota. Those poor quality losses would've been more significant than losing to OSU and Oregon as we now know.
@BenDeLeon915Ай бұрын
@@heartbreak25 correct. We didn’t expect to win nor thought we 100% would have without those turnovers. But we are saying every other part of our team looked even or fairly even to PSU, so it would’ve been a close game. I think we still would’ve lost but it would’ve been less than a 10 point loss and a lot more competitive than the score line made it look
@heartbreak25Ай бұрын
@@BenDeLeon915 That's where I disagree a bit. There is a clear talent disparity between PSU and SMU. There's a reason why PSU is 33-1 in every game they've been favored since 2022. And that 1 loss is when 8 starters opted out of the Peach Bowl but it wasn't disclosed beforehand. There's a reason why PSU is only one of 5 teams to have at least 6 players drafted in 7 consecutive NFL drafts. When a team is at a talent disparity, there's still a more than 0% chance of winning, but it takes a near-perfect game. The amount of paths PSU had to win was significantly more than the amount of paths SMU had to win. PSU is at a talent disparity against OSU and Oregon. That doesn't mean we can't win, it just means we have to play at our best. That means we can't fail to score inside the 5-yard line or throw 2 INTs. And if we do win, it doesn't say PSU was even to either team, it was that we had our day. Without a running game, what were SMU's paths to winning? SMU runs a one-read passing offense, and PSU took away that option early. Then they kept trying to bootleg with Jennings to avoid the pass rush, and that didn't work because SMU's WRs couldn't get open. You have to give credit to PSU's defense because the INTs weren't tipped passes or dropped balls. It was PSU players taking to their coaching and making plays. And on offense, both QBs struggled with passing in the conditions, but PSU still ran for nearly 200 yards and 3 TDs. The place where SMU performed well all game was your D-Line challenging our O-Line. They won some one-on-one matchups outright. But Allar is risk-averse in these types of games so he wasn't going to make bad plays under pressure. So if your D wasn't going to cause turnovers, then I don't know what else your O had in the clip to make it a game for 4 quarters. Maybe it's 31-17 final score?
@BenDeLeon915Ай бұрын
@@heartbreak25 I think that’s a fair assessment. I agree we would need a near-perfect game to win. I’m just disappointed we didn’t force Allar or your offense to make plays to win. Because I think there’s still some question marks over how good the QB is, but we kinda gave them the game with the TOs and the offense didn’t have to do anything. Definitely agree with the talent gap, I just think we have very good schemes which cam at times make up score some of the talent gap, so that’s why I think we had a chance

Great analysis. SMU looked pretty impressive. It just came down to a handful of mistakes that snowballed. Penn State has some 1st and 2nd rounders on their defensive line. It's hard to not get overwhelmed. It's not going to be easy to win these CFP games in a road environment, as we saw in every game this weekend. Glad you had a nice trip. Penn State fans are very chill and friendly. SMU will bounce back and get better.

@BenDeLeon915Ай бұрын
@@Lenker25 very insightful response lol. There’s a talent gap as a still G5 roster v P4 roster, so you SHOULD make it look like varsity v JV. If you watched the game you’d see it was an even take outside of two pick 6s in the first half, plus another INT in the red-zone and a missed TD in the first half. With 2/4 of those things literally any team would lose, including another “varsity” team as you say, much less all 4. So yeah, I’m comfortable saying we had a shot if our QB doesn’t self-destruct. Sure, it’s a what-if game and doesn’t matter, but I’m proud of what my school did this year. And I’m proud that everyone outside of the QB showed up and played hard, even if the score line doesn’t show it
@nickduffy8919Ай бұрын
You need to take a look at our RB that are Healthy they will be tough to stop. Our wide receiver are our weakest part. I think you will struggle to move the ball against our D line, they are faster than Clemson. Your QB holds on to the ball way too long. Every snap is going to like the MSU clip you watched. You're turnover rate will make this a very difficult game for you if that happens. I think it will be a 2 score game at least and I don't say that to brag I have watch several games with your team and I don't think they are consistent enough. Love hearing from SMU fans and Podcaster, I would like to hear more about how you see your team.
@atwotalentsteward9342Ай бұрын
This is a fair comment. Jennings does hold on to the ball too long and it leads to fumbles and picks. It also leads to crazy plays as he is a big risk taker. Reminds me of Manziel but less rushing and more scramble to throw. I think if he has 2 turnovers you are right it’s a 2+ score game and it will heavily depend on his game.
