What are the current landing fees these days out there, do you know? Do they waive the fee if you buy fuel? LOL dunno if they even have fuel tho...

I believe it's around $38 single engine and more for twins. You can buy an annual Catalina Aeroclub Pass for around $210. Free landings with that.

I flew to Catalina around about 1980. The island was in view from my window in Manhattan Beach, everyday that it wasn't fogged in. BTW, the original KING KONG from the 1930s, fogged in and all, was shot on Catalina Island. My roommate rented a Citabria out of Torrance. I think the landing fee at AVX was less than $5, iirc. Even that was too much for my roomie, a notorious tightwad, he tried to get around paying. They blocked him with their p-u truck until he paid. What I remember from the landing, he came in very high and slipped it a ton with an uneventful touchdown. Last time I heard anything about him, he became an A-6 driver. Go Navy and count your change.
@MartyMitchell926602 ай бұрын
@@hotprop92 Yes, I think you're right, it was around $5 back in the 80's. I first flew there in 1983. They ran a tight ship, no one left before paying the piper. I also have a view of Catalina from my house in Newport Beach. On those clear days, once I see the island, it reminds me that it's time to go there and get a cookie.

Great Idea I compressed my damper by standing it upright on my drill pres with one end in a hole in a board and the other in the drill chuck wide open. This allows you to press the cylinder down and hold it there with the column lock. Allows you to measure the dist before setting the wires.
@MartyMitchell926604 ай бұрын
I like your way too! I have a full height drill press, should have tried it that way. Not real critical what distance you wire up the struts, as long as they're shorter than full length. Thanks for sharing your idea!

Can I ask you how to measure the remaining imbalance value (g.m) after finishing the static balance process?
@MartyMitchell926605 ай бұрын
Most owners do not balance these small tires. Once they are statically balanced, they're good enough. Maybe there's a way to do a dynamic balance, but I am not aware of one.

Consider rotating hub in tire in attempt to reduce unbalance, thus adding less correction weigh and reducing dynamic unbalance. Also, equal weights on both sides of wheel (as possible) will reduce dynamic unbalance.
@MartyMitchell926608 ай бұрын
Yes on rotating hub (wheel), no on inside weights. The brake disc takes up that space. Less weight added is much better. This tire/wheel combo was really far out of balance. It would be worth the short amount of time to experiment with different clocking.

Cracked mine doing donuts in the snow this last winter. Haven't removed the cylinder head yet but the valve head doesnt look bad. I lost a fuck ton of coolant on the initial issue. Caught the firewall on fire as well from where it was sagging onto the hot exhaust. Very unfortunate. Probably will just dirby the m52 at this point im not sure if its worth even trying to salvage. Although i dont know how bad the crack itself is. I do know it wont overheat in idle though. Only tries to overheat when i get it out and get on it. Chassis has rust so i wasnt that pressed. What do you think i cracked?
@MartyMitchell926608 ай бұрын
Sounds like a cracked cylinder head to me. I bought an aftermarket one for $1700 and paid a shop about $2300 in labor to install it. Might not be worth it on your rusty car. Likely cheaper ways to get 'er fixed but might take some work on your part. A good diagnosis might be in order first though.

@MartyMitchell92660 im gonna compression test it and run the scanner on it. If its toast, im gonna just completely part it out. Cams from the m52 are still really pretty, has a cooling overhaul from ecs tuning, the whole 9 yards with that belts. Therm, housing pulley, water pump. I flipped the car and the a pillars buckled. So i decided i was gonna just have fun in it and i should have done a gasket job. She just hit 170k. Got some frenched depo headlights on it if interested!
