Peter Tosh did not sing about girls... so the companies don't want to promote songs about apartheid systems in South Africa 🌍
@fredvan60436 ай бұрын
Well, actually he did, albeit mostly in a rather self-indulgent manner and without the poetic qualities of Bob Marley's tunes: never heard of "Can't you see", "Love", "Soon come", "Brand new second hand", or the highly commercial disco tune "Nothing but love"?

Tosh was The last reggae superstar…after his death all the money went to rap music, way cheaper to produce and easy to replicate. But Reggae will never die!

Pure integrity - you would never hear today’s supposed ‘artists’ talk so honestly, holding /telling truth to power!

[28 April 2024] So many people say that this was one of Tosh's greatest interviews, where, more than ever, he spoke the truth. But I've never liked it. Tosh sounds, here, less like a righteous prophet than like a man who's lost the run of himself, or who's lost the plot. He sounds *vitiated* or etiolated, as if the holy herb has let him down. His many profanities here *don't* sound mystic (and remember, he really did believe, or affect to believe, that words like bumboclaat and rasclaat were mystic , just because the Babylon sh!tstem [the ruling class] had them tabooed; he really did believe that under certain circumstances, profanities could be holy[!]) or even funny; they sound *tic-like* ; like he's using them as verbal crutches because he can't think of anything else to say. And while his denunciations of plastic pop music are funny and apt - I know just what he means when he says "people are tired of hearing bumboclaat get-down-shake-your-f!ck!n'-booty!" - his blatant insulting and dismissing of Prince and Michael Jackson (who, even if they weren't Jamaican or Rastafarian, were still Black artists in a wh!te world, same as Peter himself) sounds uncharitable and unfair, and his railing against silly love-songs - "You turn on the fuckin' radio, 24 bumboclaat hours a day you hear, 'Darlin I love you'! A man wouldn't sing to the Almighty a rasclaat, him love a woman more than the Creator who create the sun and the moon and the bumboclaat stars!" - sounds downright *vicious* in its mean-spiritedness. He seems to have forgotten that he's a pop singer himself here; he sounds less like a true soul rebel and real roots reggae artiste (which he always was, right through to the end) than like some old man sitting on a porch-step and grousing that modern artistes don't make real music. The whole thing just strikes me as *sad* ; before and after it's anything else. Especially because this disheartening interview was filmed only a few months before his death.

Nothing he is saying here is lies though. although Peter was often eccentric, he didn't deserve the fate he got later in life for speaking his mind.
