ewic 3000a for me is the top 1 in printing for cast silver and gold. I use a 12-hour program in a muffle oven and there are almost no defects in the mold. The main thing for this resin is to hold it for 2.5 hours at a temperature of 150 degrees

The models I cast are from 20grams of silver to 45 gram and I do have to soak at high temps for at a least 5 hrs. Always problems with anything less than 3 on heavy models. Love the video as always. Thank you.

You didn't use flux? Try resin printing.
@ClearMindJewellery2 күн бұрын
We did use flux, you can kind of see the evidence of that with the bronze. We simply didn’t film this as a tutorial so it’s just the aesthetic shots. And this experiment was done with Vintage resin so I don’t know what you mean about trying resin printing .

I can cast in 3 hours as long as the parts have smoothish surfaces, that's from deciding to do it to having the pieces pickled and pin polished. Small flask (coke can sized), hot kiln, 730c, 45 min set time, only the best gypsum bonded investment. Tree, can, invest, 45min set, into 730, 1 hour hold once the temp has come back up, crash to cast temp (door open a bit), cast, quench and post process and don't miss the postal collection... Only suitable for waxes, not prints or other unusual model materials. I would only ever do this in an urgent situation, rushing in casting always leads to compromises. I'm just around 1m career castings completed and not many in this manner. Overnight is a process without quality compromises.

can you please add a model to your testing suite that include some engraving and/or embossed text? I think its a really tough test for all resins and definitely something that could give more insight. Thanks for all the castable resin videos youve done over the years..very helpful
@ClearMindJewellery4 күн бұрын
We do ave the open source signet with the large gear, which I think was included here. But we can definitely look at adding something more specific. I think we mentioned in this video, Bluecast XOne is still the go to for embossed/debossed style signets etc just due to the lower melt temp. Any resin that changes to a liquid as it burns will always have the advantage with that style of jewellery.

I'd suggest using a rosebud tip on the torch, larger flame size will give a quicker melt and less oxygen on the metal. Thanks for trying something to push the boundaries with casting.

@ClearMindJewellery7 күн бұрын
Sounds like it’s doing its job. when you change your oil we would recommend using some flushing oil just to flush through and stuck bits, and to check your filters a couple times a year to see when you should change them.

What I used on some things to be able to scan them was talcum powder.

Yep. The Aesub spray we mentioned in the video is essentially that. You can also use dry shampoo as a more DIY version.

Why can’t you use your first wax after powder? I’ve found I need to use powder regularly to get good detail, will this cause casting issues? I can’t figure out why else I would be lacking details
@ClearMindJewellery8 күн бұрын
Most powders are talc based. If you don’t or can’t clean your wax effectively you run the risk of introducing that texture into your casting. As the talc doesn’t burn.

That's so weird of them. But it does have an easier print then their 200 & 400, doesn't cast as well though as we can do a 6hr rapid with those formulas no problem. The cutting tool is the Phrozen Sonic Saber amzn.to/4i3OSyj

What happens to the wax design mold?
@ClearMindJewellery13 күн бұрын
The wax or 3d printed model is burned away in the kiln. It leaves a cavity in the gypsum investment that is filled with the metal.

Is there any chance that I can replace the LEDs on the SL1S printer. I'm doing a school project and the printer is set at a wavelength of 405 and I need it to be at 365 in order for the resin to cure properly. We unfortunately can't use different resin so we are stuck with these materials. Thank you
@sofabored215014 күн бұрын
You're very shakey. You make me nervous with that blade.
@ClearMindJewellery13 күн бұрын
Some of the shaking is on purpose. Dan prefers a technique that creates a zigzag cut, he finds this can help reduce flashing (wax squishing out where it shouldn’t be) and allows for the mold to meet up easier.

@ClearMindJewellery19 күн бұрын
So we don't use filament do the the amount of detail lose for jewellery casting. We use a variety of resins and have created a ranked list, as different people may prefer a different resin due to types of models or budget. clearmindcasting.com/pages/resin-ranked-list In this video we are using Apply Lab Work Cyan, but brands like bluecoats, power resin, etc also have good options.
@magnersmetalworks19 күн бұрын
How long do you let your metal heat up for. Usually when my metal is already melted, the top of my crucible is never glowing like that. But I’m having issues with it, clogging up at the top and I’m assuming it’s because I’m not having it at the temperatures, you are. Speaking of silver by the way.
@ClearMindJewellery19 күн бұрын
So it depends on the day but we let it sit from 20-40 minutes. Depends on how busy we are. The temperature we aim for with sterling silver is 1780F, fine silver is a lot higher and temperature recommendation is based on model size. One of the biggest mistakes we see people make is over filling. Not sure if this is your issue but...If you add metal up to the top of the crucible you rely on soaking temperature of the crucible not the active temperature of the coils, so it takes slightly longer to get all the metal up to temp.
@magnersmetalworks19 күн бұрын
@ thank you so much. I usually just start pouring when the metal is melted. I didn’t know if it’s bad to let it sit too long. Plus I purchased one of your brass rings to practice stone setting. Love that thing. Lol
@ClearMindJewellery19 күн бұрын
There is something to be said about crucible life and coil life if your constantly letting it sit for long amount of time but 20-40 minutes every few days isn't a big ask. We haven't replaced any parts or done major maintenance to our 1 KG unit in the 5+ years we've had it. Glad you are enjoying the practice rings. A number of people have found them very useful.
