What is a ballpark total cost on a shortbed conversion. I’ve gotten several quotes but yours really look professionally done

I was really interested in watching the process. you sound like you know exactly what your doing. I made it a few minutes into your video and had to stop. please please clean your camera lens its impossible to watch through all the smudges. other than that it looks like you were on track for a great video sir.

Really like the idea of the Z-Cut on the frame....The Idea I had was Z-Cut the frame like you are on that one side then do a reverse Z-Cut on the opposite side...

Hey. Just wanted to say thank you. The videos are awesome. I have one question. Is there a way to cut the Freon of the bed floor and not have the weld seam? Like just cut it 14” and then add a flange to the front to have the bolt holes? What do you think?

I’m partial to the long beds. Idk I’m like the only one who prefers that to the shorts.

About to shorten my 65. I have a 66 short bed sitting in my shop to use as measurement comparison which is nice. Trying to decide if I buy a kit or just Z cut it like you did under my cab. Seems pretty simple. Btw I think I have the exact same lift as you. Champion TP-9 HD. Curious what’s the biggest vehicle you’ve had on yours. I have a 2004 sierra 1500 crew cab. Heaviest thing I plan to ever put on mine.

I like z cuts better than kits if you do right after you clean up the outside weld and a little paint can't even tell they are cut the kits have lots of bolts in that area you will see.Ive actually picked up a 90s model one ton Crew cab on there and a hummer h2 went up just fine

I’m going to be shortening my 65 any week now. Been trying to decide if I want to buy one of those kits that shows you where to drill all of your holes and cut or just do it this way. This video is awesome. I have a buddy down the road from me that is a fabricator for a living And also used to build race cars and he owes me a favor so I’m going to borrow his welding skills. I also just recently put a two post champion. Lift in my shop. Looks really similar to yours. I’m wondering what model that is that you have. I ended up getting a barely used TP-9HD locally from a shop that closed down. It’s a 9500 pound lift and should be more than enough for anything that I do out of my hobby shop but I do wish I could have got the 10 or 11,000 pound lift but he had already sold that one. really the only thing I don’t like about mine is I have to pull the safety lock tabs by hand on each post before putting it back down. The heavier version of my lift has release rod on the side by the pump. Thanks a lot for the video. This will help me immensely in the coming weeks. Also, trying to get my son off of games and digital devices. It doesn’t help that I have a suite loft, man cave in my shop with a huge Soundsystem TV and Xbox but I figure even if I can’t get my kid into helping me at least he can be in the shop with me.

My 70 CST is a leaf spring truck. It’s a factory short bed though. They called it a “heavy half ton”. It came factory with a 402BB/TH400 12 bolt posi 4.10:1. No AC though.

Really good job loos factory. What's the cost to have a LWB truck converted to swb ? Anyone know?
@williamguillIII8 ай бұрын
Sure is cheaper than spending $500 for a Brother's kit, that I waited 8 months on and they told me it MAY be December '23 before I get it. Of course I cancelled the order. Holly bought them out and I'm not so sure that was a good thing.

Why can't you do the straight, then weld in a 6 inch (L- brace) that secures the top and the side, then box that same 6 inch area?

Truck frames need to have some flex in them for the most part .it might make it to ridge and I would imagine creating stress points at different locations of the frame.

If you don't mind me asking what is the total length that the frame is supposed to be from the back of the cab to the rear of the frame I recently bought a short bed conversion 78c10 and something seems off. Also the guy tacked up some square tubing were the bed sits on the rear of the frame. About 2 inches tall saying that it needed it to line up the body lines.

In the metal industry, it's a standard to NEVER make a corner in a steel insert due to the propagation of cracking at corners. Furthermore a straight cut, beveled and butt fitted would have sufficed. But you guys did pretty clean work.

the easiest way to remove the bolts with nuts is tighten them. they will snap in two.
@jamesatchison2289 Жыл бұрын
By far the best way to cut down a frame! Save yourself $500 over buying the so called “kit” that uses bolts to hold a straight cut together!!! Get the future generation out in the shop and build a classic! Strong work!
