I somehow don't understand the crab stitch. I follow the instructions and single crochet backwards, but it just makes the stitch "v" face the opposite way. It doesn't look all twisted.

As a beginner, the only way I can keep track of my stitches is to put stitch markers in each stitch until I can work it up to at least 6 stitches. It slows everything down, but I get fewer mistakes

Hi Kati, I’m working on the pattern for the manger in your nativity crochet book. There is an instruction for “C” in the abbreviation chart it says it means “corner.” There is no other description of what this means in the book. I’ve also searched on the internet and cannot find any interpretation that makes sense. Others are having trouble as well, there is a Reddit thread where people are trying to figure it out. Can you offer any insight? Thank you

I don't have a nativity crochet book, so I think you may have the wrong designer. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

V stitch = DC, ch1, DC into same chain. Pattern first row is SC, ch2, sk2, V, ch2, sk2, SC... (I had to slow video to 25% but I finally got it after 3 tries😂)(I think)

Even though you didn't reply to my first comment I feel the need to further comment to you. Because of the type of work you do you really shouldn't hold off too long before going back and getting progressives if that's what you should already be wearing. I fully agree with your doctor only prescribing you with single vision glasses to correct your nearsightedness and astigmatisms. I'm sure he wants you to first get used to wearing glasses all the time and for your eyes to get fully adjusted to seeing with glasses. He no doubt feels your need is a bit more necessary for distance so your safe to be driving your car. But actually as crazy as this may sound to you, your glasses are working against you in regards to being of much help to you doing your near work. The astigmatism part is at least somewhat help full but the distance part isn't helping you at all for near work. That's why your going need progressives soon. He didn't want to start you off with progressives because getting them as you first glasses would make it that much harder for you to get used to. In case your interested, progressives are what tri-focals used to be. Progressives have three different prescriptions in them. The main area which is also the larger area is for your distance which is very much like the glasses your now wearing. Juts slightly below that area is the mid-range area which is just a little stronger than what your distance area is. Then the lowest part is called the add segment and it's what you will be using to do your knitting and other close work with. The main thing to learn is in finding those three areas with your eyes only. Move your eyes only an nt your head when going from looking at things at a distance to reading a menu. The mid range are is nice for things that aren't quite at a distance but not close up either. One warning is that you really will need to be careful at first going up and down steps. Many many have taken nasty falls as a result of their progressives. The best way of avoiding taking a fall is not look down when going up or down steps. I have feeling the doctor told you that he wanted you to start wearing your glasses fulltime as he was sliding them in front of your eyes for the first time. And assume you have been wearing them fulltime since getting them as you were instructed to. So the new Kati look is one of her wearing glasses all the time and we won't be seeing her without glasses anymore. Good thing you look as cute as do wearing glasses at least.

Sadly, you only very rarely ever show your face and were only able to see your lovely hands and fancy nail painting. So you seemed quite happy with how well you were able to see after getting your glasses. When you got your glasses were you planning on wearing them fulltime or just as needed? But I'm thinking that your glasses made such an improvement to your eyesight that you may have went straight to fulltime wear rather quickly. So you should really do an update about your glasses and how much they have changed your life. I know you said one of the main reasons you went for an eye exam was because driving had become more and more challenging to you. So i'm sure your now wearing glasses to drive and do you ever wonder how you were able to see to drive before you got your glasses without having a crash? If you no longer can see well enough to drive without glasses, which I'm quite sure you can't, you should really consider getting a second pair of glasses in case something were to happen to your glasses. You need to remember that if you were to loose or break your glasses it would take at least 4 -6 days to get new ones made. Would you be able to get by without glasses that long? I can answer you this way as a former optician. Once anyone becomes a fulltime glasses wearer they have become quite dependent on their glasses and can't get by without them. I have a feeling that would include you. Now I realize that glasses are quite expensive, especially from the local optical store. But you might want to consider ordering a backup pair or just a second pair, from one of the numerous on-line glasses sites. For single vision glasses, which what your glasses are, many of the sites have glasses including the lenses in your prescription for as little as $7.00. There are many sites but here are several that the girls in my store were often ordering their glasses and sunglasses from. Zenni Optical, Lensmart, Payne Glasses and Eye Buy Direct. It's really very easy to order your own glasses. I'm sure besides getting a backup pair you would love to have a nice pair of prescription sunglasses for those sunny days. If you are interested, i will be glad to guide you through the process.

I'm able to do small tubes as you show here but do you have a tip for doing this with just 3 stitches? Takes me forever to make it happen! My pattern starts (the tip of a tail) with 3 sc in a MR, followed by four rounds of the three stitches. I have not found a way yet to make it easy!
@HookedbyKati

3 sts is an incredibly small tube. Just take it really slow. The good part is that 4 rounds is only 12 stitches. :)
