Two youngsters are boarding the "Nostromo." What will these young ones make of this "old, long, slow-moving, character-centered, no-DFX" movie? 3:23 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 5:38 Recent viewers have described the derelict alien ship as either "the Devil's Horseshoe" or "a Forbidden Doughnut.";) 5:46 The Space Jockey, a mystery for years. 6:55 The first jump scare. 7:19 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 7:38 The Face Hugger and Acid Blood. 8:58 A Props Dept. work of ART, made of sea animals. 9:57 Kane's last meal. 10:33 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years. 11:48 Along came Jones. 13:01 Say hello to Bolaji Badejo. 14:08 You're in command, Ripley. 14:30 In 1979, this was my "WTF? Ash ISN'T Human!?" moment. 15:27 Most didn't see this coming. 17:15 I've read that Lambert is standing in for us, the audience. 18:43 Escape route cut off, stop Destruct to gain time for Plan B. 22:05 Tonight's entree on the shuttle "Narcissus" is Steamed Xenomorph in Shell. 22:35 Correction, Char-Broiled Xenomorph. This and the next movie made newcomer Sigourney Weaver a major movie star. On to "Aliens" (1986)!

horror genre has changed a lot over the last 45 years. in 1979 this was def a sci-fi horror. and it's a lot scarier when you go in blind and see it in a theater. on tv it loses a but of fear factor. i wouldnt say it's too confusing. they're a civilian crew heading home. they got re-routed to new coordinates and the android was directed to retrieve the alien. they having standing orders to investigate possible life forms. it got loose and killed them all. ALIENS, the sequel is a must watch and further develops the aliens.
@SubterrelProspectorКүн бұрын
It's not confusing at all. The movie tells you everything you need to know. They just overthink or underthink things.

Disagree with nearly everything the guy on the right said, opinions huh? If some of the movie seems cliched now it is because it has influenced a lot of what came later. The concept was utterly ground breaking back in a time when the internet was still in its infancy and computing power was less than a 1000th of what it is now. The whole human battery thing wasn't the original idea of the Matrix, that was dumbed down for the masses who weren't familiar with computer technology and advanced concepts such as human brains being used as processors to create a neural network which was the original concept. As for the love conquers all trope, it may be overused and can be corny if not done well, but the human mind is a powerful thing and combined with extreme emotional states can create miracles. Indeed our existence and consciousness are near impossible statistically speaking but free will and the ability to imagine things that do not exist are truly a miracle since the Universe being causal should be deterministic which precludes free will as there is no mechanism to allow for it. And the fact that we are able to manipulate the physical world through our will and beyond that invent and create the shape the reality we live in should elicit a little more respect for the concept of love and the power of our emotions and their influence over human evolution, how civilisations have been shaped and the World we live in.

Yeah we don't hold back on our thoughts and are honest even if sometimes they are to be critical or unpopular, like you said, that's the great thing about opinions. It's interesting when people disagree and can have different views on things, creates great conversations. And that's why I love when people leave their thoughts in the comments as well. As for the love trope, I don't hate it and I agree it can be done incredibly well. But to me it felt like this movie could've worked without it and it felt a little unnecessary. But then again, it was my first time seeing it so maybe I missed something or didn't "get it" so to speak. Have to watch the movie again at some point. Thanks for watching! - Nyfbie

Fascinating entry point into the franchise. I would have never thought to reccomend starting with this one. There are plot elemnts which I woul;d think might be confusing to a non Trekker. Trouble is all the alternatives I can think of have issues as well depending on the audience. I grew up on the Original Series so naturally the first season would be my first inclination, but I would be concerned about losing a younger audience due to it being dated presentation wise. I guess i would have reccommended the even numbered OG Trek movies (plus Search for Spock) to start, then followed by the Khan episode from the OS to set the hook.
@TheGeekheadsАй бұрын
Yeah we have learned that the hard way lol. This was the only movie we found on Finnish Netflix and I had honestly no idea how much content there actually was so we just decided to start with what we found. George Lucas was a huge Star Trek viewer and fan. My advice, definitely watch in Production order, see how the first two go "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and "The Corbomite Maneuver". If you don't decid to watch all the first season, then you'll have plenty of recommendation for the best ones.

I am more aligned with "fantasy/whisked away to another world" movies, but I don't mind some of the slice of life movies. With that being said here's my tierlist... S: Howls, Spirited Away, Mononoke, Nausica, Kaguya, Castle in the Sky, Lupin: Cagliostro Castle A: Ponyo, The Cat Returns, Totoro, Kiki's, Earthsea, Pom Poko, Yamadas B: Fireflies, Arietty, Marnie C: Porco Rosso, Only Yesterday, Whisper of the Heart D: Ocean Waves, Wind Rises, Poppy Hill E: Earwig and the Witch
@TheGeekheads2 ай бұрын
Yeah I can see how Ocean Waves and Poppy Hill are almost like love them or hate them type of movies. I recently watched lupin for the first time in cinemas and ofc the boy and the heron as well, I would rate lupin to A tier and Boy and the heron to S tier. But these are really hard to rate for me because I honestly enjoyed watching all of them, even earwig and the witch to some extent haha Thanks for watching!

One of my faves! Big head aliens, pretty girls, ray guns, weird psychic stuff....how can you not love it????? I was a very little child when this premiered. My uncle purchased the first color television set in our family just to view Star Trek. As for best episodes..."City on the Edge of Forever" is widely regarded as the best episode. A couple other high rated episodes I like are "Devil in the Dark","Amok Time" and "Where No Man has Gone Before". Other favorites for me are "Mudd's Women", "The Trouble With Tribbles", "Return of th Archons", "Journey to Babel", "The Corbomite Maneuver", "All our Yesterdays" and the episode "Space Seed" forms the basis for the second film "Wrath of Khan". I'm subscribing in hopes you watch more of these.

Glad this reaction just popped up in my YT feed to watch. This movie is made for people who never watched old Star Trek. Old Star Trek was more about storytelling & used special effects sparingly over special effects used constantly. It's good for that reason & although I don't like how they changed everything away from original Star Trek, giving us the "Kelvin Timeline". That being said, it's a fun action movie. Just don't think about the plot too much! Enjoy the constant action, yelling, screaming, lens flairs & great special effects!

Number one ( Executive Officer) was Majel Barrett, she became the nurse in TOS (Nurse Chapel). She's Gene Roddenberry's wife. She was also in The Next Generation as Lwaxana Troi, Deanna Troi's mother. Spock here is the science officer maybe the third officer in rank.

This was a failed pilot and never aired. Later, there is a 2-part episode that uses this footage. But once you get into the series with Captain Kirk, its better. This was a brainy episode, and the studio wanted a series more adventure oriented. Give it a chance. It will make you think, and at the same time, its fun.
