Atlantic salmon and brown trout are closely related, but chars are a different group, and the third separate group are the rainbow trout and its various cousins

Sea run arctic char is so weird to me as a Swede but it totally makes sense, why wouldn't they go into the ocean where they can for food

Nice to see these gentlemen are actually fishing rather than casting. Using one handed rods is actually angling, we’re as two handed rods is a sport of casting. No problem with that sport, just know it’s not angling.

People fish the way they want to fish, nobody should care what you think is angling or not

Thanks for watching David, I personally love fishing single hand rods but we do also fish lightweight double handers in the parts of the river where we really need distance or in some cases it helps cast bulky flies through strong wind which we get a lot of in Greenland, also elderly guests that struggle with mobility can manage the doubles a little easier. So what ever fits and gets us fishing works best, but I agree there is a lot of "Casting" over fishing in general around the world :)

I’ve been struggling to make a decision to use doubles or trebles for tube flies. I decided to go with doubles. Do you have any preference for either type of hook and if so, why or how do you decide to use one or the other for tube flies? Thanks for making such beautiful content!
@TheFlyTyer
@TheFlyTyer Жыл бұрын
Normally it will depend on the fly size, smaller hooks tend to be best for Salmon at least so in most cases smallest flies small trebles, then as they get larger doubles and potentially even singles on the largest flies like sunrays or intruders etc. Needs to be able to fit inside the fishes mouth :)

How would you finish the head if you did not use a cone?
@TheFlyTyer
@TheFlyTyer Жыл бұрын
Whip finish, super glue and then varnish applied with a dubbing needle, perhaps 2-3 times until the finish is smooth and secure

Where do you buy these guitar string balls?
@TheFlyTyer
@TheFlyTyer Жыл бұрын
This was just a bit of fun recycling guitar strings as I used to play in a band a lot, so if you know anyone who plays you could ask them to save them, alternatively a 3-4mm brass tube made for fly tying will do the exact some job :)

Nice fly. I was not yet at the thinner tube when I started the second hackle so I added some more dubbing and a red hackle before the last dub and orange hackle on the thin tubing. Turned out a bit longer but very nice. Also I had no badger hair for the wing, so I had to do a blend with red and yellow craft fur.

I'm a little shocked at the thread below. The only 'rule' of fly-tying fishing, and an unwritten one at that, is that we are polite to each other--whether on the river or sharing a fly from the bench We respect each other as we respect the fish. There is no 'failing' anything. Yes, I might have counter wrapped a hackle but that is a choice and I respect the choices of fellow tiers to do as they wish--this was a beautifully tied fly and thank you for taking the time to share it. Best to all.

It be different if was respectful criticism, but its not. The person is a total drama queen, he made a massive scene over dubbing colour lol..... thats not a normal reaction
