I believe that black people in the USA have two problems with the concept of slavery. First, like most Americans, they only know about their country, and are unaware of most of world history, looking too inward. And second, believing that all Africans are "brothers" or "our people" is crazy. You will not see any other race or civilization say the same. This song gets to me so much because he loved his mother with all his heart even though his mother could not be a mother to him. She threw him out of the house after his brother almost beat him to death.
