You have a family you don't want to go too big because you go off-grid so I say a 6x10 by 6 ft 3 or whatever height you like (Trailers to go for less) work with several manufacturers that will custom build those specs for you You also may want to consider 080 polycore I went with Anvil Trailers then build it out to be The Chuck Box XL anyway do what's best for you Joe l

I literally watched just about all cargo trailer conversions and am of the opinion a 7x14 is the most common one. For full time living, go bigger, but for camping this is the one I believe.

You could keep the same trailer but add a side drop out like hybrid campers have! Keeps a small trailer.but maximizes room! My hybrid trailer was really handy that way! 15ft long but drop outs on both ends made it like 24ft long whith beds dropped out.!.

@@philipgagne1852 yeah I've seen the trailers with those! I'm definitely interested in that route but there's 2 problems, and one big draw back. Problem 1 is sourcing/ buying these side drop downs (I've had a hard time) 2nd problem is structural integrity, in other words I would have to completely reconstruct the frame of the trailer to support this large drop out. The drawback is these drop out kits take up a lot of room when "closed" in. Nonetheless it would be a really cool thing to incorporate in the trailer and I'm still exploring this option! Thanks for watching

@@JoelTremblayCA my dropouts when closed are maybe about 6-8" deep at most. But I can see the whole structural part and sourcing parts!. I now use a truck box slide in camper with a pop top. As I go too deep in the bush for the trailer now. But for a full family weekend the camper still gets used. Other option is a roof mounted pop up on your camper? Giving a "loft are" for either the little one or you. Allowing to keep with the smaller lighter trailer.

Hey Joel, I wanted to say hi. Also, I subscribed to your channel when you started building your trailer. I'm not sure I said it at back then, but I thought "Thats a single man's trailer". More importantly it has been a pleasure watching you Build, Grow, Graduate, Marry and Have a child. God bless you and your family. I remember tent camping with my 4 boys, it is a great thing getting your kids out in the woods. They learn life lessons, fire, cooking, building, problem solving, etc. When we got our camper, they were old enough they wanted to sleep outside in their own tent. Great memories! Enjoy every minute! Thanks for sharing!

NIce Video! I just so happen to have a truck box XL. It's a 7x12x7. We built the bed(short queen) 25" off the floor so our son could sleep under us. Ramp door in the rear that we use as a "deck". We also have a wet bath with a removable "compost" toilet. There is a build video on my channel if your are interested. Keep up the good work.

I am interested in the OVS awning. Have you changed the mounting setup of your OVS from the way you originally mounted the awning? I am trying to figure out the best mounting setup on my 7 x 14 cargo trailer conversion. I would be curious to see how you changed the mounting of your OVS. Great content, would be awesome to see another build.

@@2slowmoto30 thanks for the support. I did end up changing from the original mounting solution. If you checkout my updated walk around video I show how I did it using some angle iron from an old bed frame. It's just bolted through the roof rack.
