I am very curious about Dolby. I haven't had an opportunity to hear it other than on my phone, but something about the deliverable being able to do from mono all the way to multi-channel makes a whole lot of sense to me.

I haven't had the opportunity to listen to Atmos mixes, so I have no frame of reference. That said, I don't see the point of having it sound like I'm sitting in the middle of the band while they play all around me. It also seems like the prosody aspects would get gimmicky fast. Regard the argument that the average person isn't listening on a pair of $7500 speakers like the song was mixed on, while that's true, the average person probably IS listening on a pair of speakers/phones/buds and not on their own Atmos installation, so the stereo mix is still a closer representation of what they'll ultimately hear. At some point hopefully soon I'll be able to experiment with Atmos mixing and maybe I'll see it differently then. 🍎
@satch72Ай бұрын
the biggest problem at the moment with ATMOS are the crappy mixes. When I hear a good mix it's amazing. But a lot of heavy rock stuff just sucks the guitars out of it and it sounds terrible

🍎 I am fairly convinced that stereo is the new mono. The influence Atmos has had already is so big that I don't anticipate it disappearing soon. Tracks sound better on my two year old iPhone than newer consumer devices without Atmos. I understand the arguments against it, but they aren't very well supported in my view. The thing most nay-sayers forget, is that it isn't about how many speakers the consumer has, it's about creating a good reference point for delivering a great product. Atmos folds down to mono and still holds up; that's the point. Well--if it is mixed right... Atmos is a method of delivering a great audio experience to the consumer without the complication of wondering how to make it work on a given system. But this complicates the production end by giving us more options and methods of mixing. This is more expensive, so yeah people are going to push back. I get it. But I think Atmos is worth it from everything I have seen.

I'm old enough to remember all the BS about Quadraphonic records and it failed. I think Atmos will fail for even more today because of the cost and need to dedicate a room to it. I meant one person in the room was in the sweet spot it not for a group of people to listen too. Even with headphones now people that got together to talk and listen to music can't talk because they all have headphones on. I went to a Pink Floyd concert when they toured with a Quadraphonic PA and again unless in the sweet area of the venue the experience wasn't good. Even in the sweet area of the venue it really was only good for special effects like when a jet taking off was projected behind the band so you heard it come from the stage and fly over and away. Maybe when people get into VR AR headsets combined with good headphone Atmos will be of use, but back to it's a single person experience. I don't see it catching on with the masses and it need that level of adoption to make it last.

I love my recently acquired h90 but I get no use from the stock programs. I consider them just a way of hearing what could be done. In terms of my use of it though I always create my programs from scratch for delay, mod, pitch etc using my CXM 1978 for the reverb. And it's fantastic

hi guys, great in depth on this. I had a Vola Vasti KJM which I sold because it had really thick neck (causing just the slightest neck dive). And TBH didn't think their in-house pickups were very good. How's the neck on this guy, and what did you think of their P90s compared to the SDs or Dimarzios?

In the mid 1990s I bought my first real Strat. It was a Japanese made in the mid/late 80s. I’ve played many other Strats, but nothing holds a candle to this one. It’s still in my care. In fact it’s in my profile picture… Did you summon @RickBeato?

Take a tone-generator, set it to 30-40 Hz. Put a gate on it, key the gate with the kick in mike. Tweak the attack / release and tune the tone-generator towards the real kickdrum. Put some compression on it. Can be done in any daw. Voila, here's your subkick.
