I've seen The Aquabats twice: Once in the late '90s/2000s at the Glasshouse in Pomona where they threw pieces of fried chicken at the audience during the chicken song and sent their kids across the audience on inflatable pool toys; it was a race, and their little kids essentially crowd surfed from one end of the Glasshouse and then back to the stage. At one point they were throwing powdered Tang at us. I was covered in food. It was insane. The second time I saw The Aquabats was totally random around 2008-2010 and I only heard they were having a free show at a park in Irvine, CA from a friend at work an hour before the show. Very small crowd, no stage, they were walking among us while playing. It felt very punk rock but with that wholesome ska edge that only they can achieve. I love this band. The first time I heard them was in the 7th grade on our college-esque radio program. A friend of mine brought in a cassette tape with Aquabats, Pennywise, NOFX, Vandals, Agent Orange, and a whole bunch of other punk bands that I was only just beginning to familiarize myself with. While everyone else listened to Weezer and Offspring, we were moving into uncharted territory -- and our spiritual leader was MC Bat Commander.

I look at this now and I'd be _honored_ to have a leading Republican politician like George. we did not know what we had. how lucky we were to have an honorable but clueless man in that office. we just didn't know. how could it get worse? how could it ever get _worse_ than George W. Bush? man did terrible, terrible things. but he was a man. he can look at himself in the mirror. he can speak with honor in interviews. he actually hangs out with Barack Obama when they're doing benefits. you won't find that anywhere anymore. never stop believing, but we were fucking idiots back then. it was bad, sure, but we just didn't know better.
