Wish the commentary wasn't overlayed over their dialogue. It would be fascinating to understand what Bream used to focus on when assessing a new guitar.

Nonsense. This idea (where did it come) that we must adhere to some tempo to honor the composer is ridiculous. Who wrote that “rule?” ‘Oh this is the way it is supposed to be….” Yeah right. Desiderio is great because of his communicative skills. Shine on sir. In this situation he is NOT playing in ensemble. That is a totally different approach than playing solo.

Very true, & that's not even to mention the European plucked instruments; lute, theorbo, vihuela, baroque guitar, balalaika, bouzouki etc. Plucked strings ARE universal.

No, that guitar sounds all kinds of wrong. Plus, the usual folklore and guitar mythology. Bream was kind when he said the string was thin. That's a damning comment.

Scarlatti is much more complicated to render correctly than many people think - and it is not simply a matter of being able to play the notes quickly, there is much more to it than that. Just as I would have expected, Ms Park's rendition is simply marvelous. The Albeniz is equally stunning. Quite possibly the most accomplished guitarist of the last century.

I think an outstanding luthier shouldn't waste his time carving the neck and the head. That can be done by a skilled carpenter. He should spend his time on the soundboard, back and side only. Varnishing can also be done by other people.

@@davepowell7168 On second thought probably as a lone luthier with limited orders, it is probably more economical to do it himself rather than hiring people to do various specified tasks. Also, most artisans don't like to work with people, they are better inspired when they are alone.
