I understand that toilet paper was first sold in pre cut sheets in a box like facial tissue. At least in the US. Some people thought it was far too nice for use in the outhouse or wherever. They used it as note paper!

Beautiful if completely impractical, which, I suppose, is the purpose-you don’t have to work, so the clothing can be utterly ridiculous. I do love how in the example provided around 12:40 the small spaniel is on the top of the skirt. Made me laugh!

Why did/do women do these things to themselves? You created an amazing piece of art.

Ive always loved fashion and historical fashion, i sewed alot of my own clothes as a teenager, in the autumn of 1995 the bbc showed their adaptation of pride and prejudice, i had a regency inspired wedding dress made for me and for my bridesmaids the following year, very different from the meringue styles of the day, i like to be different x

I thought the paintings of that time were exaggerated, I didn’t realize they actually dressed like that

Fascinating, it must have been sweltering in the summer

Not necessarily- the silks are light and breathe well and since your skin is protected from the sun, it doesn’t heat up as much

Be true to yourself is the goal.

There is no real fashion today. Its corporations that control our clothes, what we eat, we what we see on tv or movies, transportation, everything we own is corporate owned, houses also. Education, jobs, total. Its sad because true individuality is destroyed. Tattoos, colored hair, piercings are trends put out by corporations because b the goal is too get everyone to conform or be ridiculed or bullied. I choose the individuality.

I thought the dress was very 1913 style. The only thing I didn't see was feathers on the hat. I love older fashions and would like to see them worn regularly. I plan to buy some feathers to put on a hat. I don't care what others say or think about wearing period clothing. Freedom of expression and taste.

It is, as the kids say, extra af. I kinda like it, because absolutely nobody would look good in it (or at least everyone looks equally terrible). Our thanks to the longsuffering cameraman who had to play maid! 😄 Also, the audio on this is kind of weird, like the two stereo channels are out of sync?

Wow it is amazing, in the 2000s when no hips were in we were just meant to be a size zero, in the past they just came up with an under garment instead, love them

That would have been so warm in the winter, like a big blanket, funny how we see denim jeans as winter attire now yet they are so cold 🥶

It amuses me that they used gorgeous fabric yet used an ugly plain leather belt, you would think they would've made them look more ornate
@priorattire3 күн бұрын
Look at the original sources and you will find exactly that- plain wide belts, some with a bit more decorative buckle, but that is all. The idea was not to distract from the fabric…

Beautiful 😍 Tudor period is definitely one of my favorite times periods fashion wise too. Always wanted to wear old historical fashions but alas I only know basic sewing skills and I can't afford to (rightfully) spend a small fortune to have someone make it for me- maybe one day 😉

Everything about Elizabethan fashion is just so much. The sleeves are massive, the skirts are massive, the ruffs are massive, the hair is often huge, the patterns are always busy, and there's so many jewels and pearls sewn into everything that it's beyond absurd.
