In the thirties my father's village in the province of Sassari had 2500 inhabitants now only 700. Recently a couple of Americans and a couple of English bought houses at ridiculous costs. They work in smart working, completely disconnected from the context of the village. Is this how we want to revive our Sardinian villages? In the meantime, pharmacies, carabinieri and post offices are closing throughout the area.

Gian Pasquale is totally right. The internet is a fantastic tool, but also a gigantic disseminator of fake dreams. As a vegetable farmer, who was born in the big city but moved to the countryside 20 years ago, I have no regrets and I understand the toll big city life takes on people's lives.

Sardinia was on my list for retirement until I found out about radioactive waste from NATO base. There’s no more clean and healthy Sardinia unfortunately.

Why don't the young Sardinians, once they get their degrees, start a business that helps process the wool, sell the local cheese, and market other local artisan crafts and traditions--stay put and continue a beautiful (and enviable) way of life.

We need to fix the problem at its source. Countries in Africa and ME that have been at war for its entire existence. Europe can barely take care of its citizens, it cannot possibly accommodate millions of people coming through its borders. It’s not about racism it’s about survival.

Does anyone know how life is in Sardinia? I want to move to Sardinia and have no idea, if near Cagliari, Olbia, or other city would be best. I live off of my Swiss disability pension and don’t need a job. I want to move near a city with public transportation, a good hospital, grocery stores, market, restaurants and cafes and nice beaches.
