I grew up hearing the Four Freshmen. Dad played bass in a college dance band and he shared his love of jazz with us. As a result, I majored in music at then North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Way too long ago!

These lads played my high school grad party....Indiana small town in 1959. I treasure Mood Indigo now....for these 65 years.

The only thing that could possibly make these performances even more awesome would be if they had been filmed in color❤

Is there a name for the brass feature at 1:30 ? I recognize it from how Bob always takes the solo in Day by Day, I'm wondering if it's an established solo from something else or if they were just quoting Bob. Or if it's just a total coincidence!

I never got to see them perform, (I was working too) but I've been a fan of The Four Freshmen as long as I can remember. Even when the group changed members, they kept their harmony and style, and it is incredibly beautiful. As a musician I can appreciate every nuance and the way this group presents some of the best old standards that have, like me, been around for years, but their value is proved by all the many who perform these great old song, where the lyrics are' meaningful and relatable and STILL pull at my heartstrings!

Brian Wilson heard them singing in his dad’s car on the radio ask who that was and the rest is history that’s where he got that harmony sound.

Yes, but also he got from Doo-wop, he liked groups of that genre like Jan And Dean and Dion And The Belmonts. In songs like Car Crazy Cutie or Surfin' and the Surfin' Safari album you can notice the musical style of Doo-Wop.
