Breck and Keystone over Fantasy Ridge?! Those hikes are through a paved parking lot-even with added altitude-compared to Fantasy (and over to Honeycomb Peak)? FR is a zone where if the rider falls, the rider could become severely injured or worse. And if one ventures on to No Man’s, one slip and that’s a hundred plus foot parting gift. Breck and Keystone just do not even come close to the level of tech and gnarliness to that of, say Fantasy Ridge-again even with the added altitude of the aforementioned resorts, there is just no comparison.

Forgot about fantasy ridge, it would make the top 5.

I wouldn’t try to ski the whole mountain in one day if you are trying to avoid flat traverses. Ski the Nevada side or the California side if you’re only there for a single day. Definitely avoid the Galaxy lift as it’s incredibly slow, and the runs are disappointing. Even worse then the flat traverses are the days when the gondola and lifts are shut down due to high winds.

Watched this last year I thought I'll never be able to make a video as good as yours. Mine are coming out differently, but I'm happy I watched this again. I'd like to get some on mountain interview of myself footage. I'm guessing you researched and had a plan before you visited. Anyhow, great stuff! I'm getting better...ha.
@snowboardtraveler
@snowboardtraveler 26 күн бұрын
We don’t go in with much of a plan besides trying to cover all the terrain. Then the video is based more on how our experience went. That usually means a ton of footage that I have to edit into a watchable 5 minutes. Are you filming yourself the whole time? That is a challenge of its own. Keep it up!
@bluebirdski
@bluebirdski 26 күн бұрын
Thanks, I use a GoPro 12, 360 and a gimbal. I bought a wireless lav' microphone, but haven't used it yet. It is impressive the way you edit it all together. I just started writing scripts on the last few. For whatever reason I've decided I want to get better at reading a teleprompter...ha. I have a ton more footage from last winter in Colorado. I think this winter I'm going to come up with a good plan before I visit the ski resorts. I appreciate your insight. Think I'm just nervous to go full KZbinr on the mountain, but I like you and your wife on the mountain speaking. Thanks again!

We are thinking to go in Mid December this year for a week, my husband grow up snowboarding me and our daughter just started 2 years ago and I would say we are still beginners, what area in Colorado would you recommend? Some people said try Veil or Winter park for better snow especially in December.
@snowboardtraveler
@snowboardtraveler Ай бұрын
Mid December can be hit or miss each snow year but all the resorts will be making snow if needed so there will be coverage on beginner and intermediate runs. Winter Park is a solid choice as they are higher elevation and have decent snow by then. It’s large enough to spend a week there. If you want to split the week up, try winter park then Copper. The 4-day ikon session pass would cover both resorts if you go before Dec 26 (black out dates end of Dec). The alternative trip would be Keystone and then you could split it up and also visit Breckenridge or Vail. All 3 are on the epic pass and somewhat close to each other. Based on today’s pricing you can get a 5-day epic pass for similar price as the 4-day ikon session.

@snowboardtraveler 2 ай бұрын
I assume you’re driving up from TX. If you want the big resort experience then Breckenridge and Keystone are good options. Plenty of beginner terrain and lots of activities to do besides skiing. For something off the beaten path one idea is angel fire New Mexico, then Taos NM, and then drive up to purgatory near Durango CO. More mountain driving but less crowded, still decent resorts for beginners.

I just was there for 2 days in March 2024... this review is spot on... I will never go back to Heavenly... they aren't exaggerating that on powder days half your time will be spent skating/walking flat expanses. Terrain park is an afterthought for Heavenly 100%. Not to mention that it started snowing on our second day while going to get lunch and the place had no covered area to eat... the only spots that do are at the farthest most ends of the resort. Like I said, this review is so spot on. P.S. Gondola has been broken for all of 2024, so yeah, Heavenly blows.

Only ever snowboarded in Europe, and next year I’m going to venture further afield. This looks perfect. When is the best time to go for someone that is a keen snowboarder and his wife that doesn’t ski or snowboard? Good mixture of sun and snow.

We went a bit late for the ideal snow but lucked out with a good snow storm. I’d say aim for mid February to early March for best conditions. There are new great hotels for spa, apres, and other activities off the slopes. Montage!
