We should be living like this today, people looked well fed....they had enough for life, and now we work as Slaves with no family security and end up alone......but well-fed.

Beautiful version Charlie of a beautiful song - that I always put down as a Clare song, but I see he was only TD for Clare, O'Higgins. I've sung it at 2 wakes myself... :-/ Glad to hear it in more cheerful surroundings. Never really thought about it as a political song, was always concentrating on the exile aspect of it.

Back in those days, there was not much talk about electric vehicles, the poor old donkey did most of the hard work and worked much more often than then fancy lazy horses who only pulled a plow a few times of the year or a cart of hay or chickens or ducks going to the market town where they stood around telling horsey jokes and tall tales and drinking Guinness and smoking their pipes with not a care in the world because they know that the hard works would be carried out by the donkeys

A most interesting ballad Charlie, outta the norm which is always refreshing to hear! Have you given up the ghost tho? To sink and surrender is to allow the capitalist hooligans and pirates take over the ship. `i see healthy sea urchins there. how wonderful! Our greedy fishermen cleaned the west coast of Éire of them not too many moons ago. We soldier on here and a thought ( lifeline )of positivity when a tree is felled it's not dead. We march on regardless....great work as per norm. Greetings from the misty grey isle.D.

Thanks you kindly Declan. The song deals with mortality and destruction rather than the good fight we rightly engage in while on the world. Though we rightly fight, in the end we all will have to surrender. We didn't die a winter yet though, we'll keep her lit while we can ;) Saludos from Argentina!
