I never saw the point of SMG drill. As an infantryman though, I only did rifle drill with SLR and SA80. Interesting to see a Guardsman as the Drill Instructor at the RAC Depot.

RIP he was very good to me at JLR. A few years later I was driving across Salisbury plain and stopped at a crossing and he was beside me. Alec was in the top of a sultan conferring with what looked like his sqn leader, he turned to the major and said, excuse me sir and turned to me and said ‘alright son, how are you doing?’ . Class.

I'm pretty sure that I travelled home with you on the train, there were 3 of us, from A Sqn the other one was a lad called Powell. I remember our Sgts , Charlie Goy, and Chris Ransom, there was also a little Scotsman called McNeil. I almost joined up again about a year or so later, but I smashed my leg up on my bike , so that put the kibosh on that. Amazing isn't it, I can recall stuff from nearly 50 years ago, but forget what I was doing yesterday.!!

Your SMG drill was different than the Canadians, do recall the across chest hold. Present arms is similar, but ours was basically a copy of the drill for the FNC1 (aka SLR)
