The beginning kind of reminds me of the "Carmen variations" arranged by Vladimir Horowitz 😎🎹🎼🎶

Great to see this posted. This 1962 suite, cleaned up a bit in 1972, was derived from folk themes used in the NFB films "Fishermen" (1959) and "Away from It All" (1961). I might add that Maritimers would object to the use of the title "Maritime Suite", since two of the songs involved are of course from Newfoundland.

Thank you for sharing this with your subscribers. This 1944 work was first performed publicly in April 1945 by Kathleen Parlow and Leo Barkin in a CBC national network broadcast. As both Robert Fleming's literary executor and his biographer I have for several years been seeking to secure a copy of both the original version of this sonata and this the shortened version. There does not appear to be a copy of the work in Miss Parlow's fonds d'archive, and Mr. d'Albert lost all of his manuscripts as the result of a fire at his home in Budapest. This is one of several missing Fleming manuscripts that I am very anxious to locate.

While structurally simple and pianistically conceived with mediocrity, it's a fairly enjoyable listen considering the beauty behind the simple modulations

Divertimento for organ, oboe, and strings was commissioned by Deer Park United Church, Toronto, for the dedication of their new organ. The premiere performance was by Mireille Lagacé and chamber players, on February 13, 1971. It was later performed by Gerald Wheeler (in Montréal) and then there was this performance by Frederick Swann, which I had the pleasure of attending. Victor Martin directed the Chamber Players of Toronto.

Thank you so much for posting this. This was the last of my father's orchestral pieces, written for the opening of the National Arts Centre.

This is I think a 1974 recording of what was my father's first significant work. It was composed at the age of 20, in Emma Lake and Saskatoon, where he was studying with Lyell Gustin. On the strength of this composition and one of his early songs he won a scholarship that permitted him to continue his studies at the Toronto Conservatory of Music in 1942-43, before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. He returned to the TCM to continue studies in 1945.
